Reckon Goorjian will target McKinnon, Bruton, Smith and Worthington. Will need to import a center and/or quality power fwd - bring back Rosell Ellis!!!

Dragons will be VERY competitive next yr. It isnt hard to change it all around in this league thats for sure!

I heard that they got a grant from the Singapore government to help them turn a profit and sign some players but some of there home games last season they had as little as 900 people attend.

Hopefully now they have signed Darren Ng this will help increase attendance figure.

They'll be flooding in now.

Rumor going around today certainly has Worthington going to the Dragons

God I hope it happens
Can't wait for Tigers vs Dragons matches next season, they'll be huge.

Dragons will be keen to announce signings soon I'd expect. Who else has been linked with us? Bruce, Smith?????

Sorry boys but I have heard that Cairns are the front runner to sign Mark Worthington and the only former Kings player South will sign is Jason Smith.

Cash money Cairns
If Abney/Mee goes, Wortho could definitely go there.

But who's closer to a title.......Cairns without Jawaii/Abney/Mee or Dragons with Burston/Ingles/Horavath

Don’t know, cannot answer that question until I see a finalized South roster. But no one can ever count out BG because he has the runs on the board.

A Cairns side with Mark Worthington instead of Darnell Mee will look good. Add Worthington to a fully fit Martin Cattalini and Larry Abney and they are looking quite intimidating. Throw in another imports (Abney as one) and Steven Black and Gary Boodnikoff to the back court and Cairns are looking good.

Looking at that, South Dragons have a lot of work to do, with or without Worthington.

If I was Mark Worthington I would sign with the Dragons because playing sport in Melbourne is not even comparable to far North Queensland. The derbies next year are going to explode; the NBL should use this as a lunching pad for the future. But I think he will go North.

The funny thing is, Schenscher is nowhere near the great white hope he is made out to be. I could see him putting up a double/double at best in the NBL.

He had a bit of right place at the right time about him, going to the NCAA final with Georgia Tech. Scored himself a couple of NBA gigs out of it.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind him playing for the Sixers, but if we have to outbid European clubs, we'll be drastically overpaying him. I'd rather spend the money on Hodge.

Giving him the 'NBL max' would be akin to giving it to Aron Baynes.

Bring on the derbies next year in Melbourne !!!

FWIW The Tigers surely will have to move their games against the Dragons to Rod Laver Arena (as rumoured a few years ago) or Vodaphone, you would get a massive crowd that couldn't fit at the cage with a reborn Dragons with Goorji at the helm.

Just some more news re: signings.

*Melbourne after Grizzard and Hodge both likely to play there
* CJ Bruton all but a Wildcat
*Vukona and Worthington, Dragons announcement may be made tomorrow
* Sam Mack likely to be a Dragon or Tiger next year, decision by weeks end
*Other bullets weighing up options
*Jason Smith most likely a Dragon or will stay at the Kings

If anybody has anything to add feel free to do so.

I dont think the Tigers can get both Grizzard and Hodge
CJ seems to be going to Perth
Sam will be leaving the Bullets I agree, but probably not a Dragon

And meanwhile we do ____ all, as usual.

Probably end up not re-signing Homicide, and signing a few more hacks in his place.

Looking great for the Dragons though. :thumbsu:

Dragons snare Worthington

The Crazy John’s South Dragons today announced the recruitment of one of the biggest names in the NBL, with former Kings star Mark Worthington signed to the club to the end of the 2010/11 season.

Worthington joins the Dragons on the back of an outstanding year with the Sydney Kings in which he averaged 17.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

His remarkable 2007/08 season was capped with selection to the All-NBL First Team.

At just 24 years of age, Worthington has already achieved success beyond his years. A veteran of two NBL grand final series and one semi-final showdown with the Kings, Worthington is also a current member of the Boomers squad and was part of the team to win gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

The 2006 NBL Rookie of the Year joins 2007 Rookie of the Year Joe Ingles on the Dragons’ new-look roster.

The 202 centimetre, 95 kilogram forward said he was excited about the move and positive about the club’s future.

“I look at it as an opportunity for a new beginning for both the club and myself,” Worthington said.

“The enthusiasm the club has and the passion of the people running it, it’s a great chance to turn the club around and it’s already going in a positive direction with the signing of Brian Goorjian.

“Just talking to (Crazy John’s South Dragons chairman) Mark Cowan about what the club is putting into place, it will definitely go up three notches to where it was last year.

“Obviously I want to continue the success I had last season and I look forward to doing that in Dragons’ colours.”

Worthington said the recruitment of Goorjian to the club was one of the major reasons behind his decision to move south.

“Brian’s never done anything wrong by me, he’s always steered me in the right direction and I think this is another opportunity within a different environment for us to shine together,” he said.

“I just think it’s a great chance for us to do something special.”

Prior to his signing with the Kings Worthington spent four years at Metropolitan State University, Minnesota. In his time with the elite college team Worthington was named to the NABC All-American team and named NABC Division II Player of the Year.

Newly-appointed Crazy John’s South Dragons head coach Brian Goorjian said Worthington had fast become one of the most exciting talents on the Australian basketball scene.

"It’s an exciting time for the club because we have signed a great young player,” Goorjian said.

“He is NBL First Team and is a versatile, young, exciting talent.

“More than that he is a great club guy and offers a lot off the floor as well. He is an integral part of the Australian team, so altogether it’s a pretty good package."

Crazy John’s South Dragons chairman Mark Cowan said the signing of Worthington, touted as the premier player on this year’s NBL free agents list, was a massive coup for the club.

“This is a very big day for our basketball club,” Cowan said.

“Mark was clearly the marquee player on the free agents list, and on the back of signing Brian Goorjian, this is huge. He will no doubt be one of the cornerstones of our team next season.

“Like the rest of the squad he is still young at 24 years old, and that suits us just fine.”

Worthington joins Ingles, Matt Burston, Nathan Herbert and Nick Horvath on the Dragons’ new-season roster.

I am pleased Worthington has not signed with the Wildcats as I prefer players who have ability AND are more sportsmanlike than he is.
