More ‘newish’ music. From the Fauves latest release which came out in November last year.

I’ve held off, in part, because I live it at work with some students in terms of attitudes. I will watch it these holidays. Colleagues have said it is good and I trust your judgement.

I'm just about to watch episode 2.

It's a heavy and loaded show. I started a long diatribe about "Fathering' and wiped it, too early in the morning for that.

Currently I am reading, 'Emma Darwin, The Inspirational Wife Of A Genius' (yes, she's Darwin's wife). Interesting how they came from Unitarian background and all the cousins marrying each other.

That is understandable. It is freighted but I wince at what you will think of the school parts considering.

I went to see the new Count of Monte Cristo yesterday, which was shown as part of the French Film Festival. The cinema was full, which was a nice change. It was really good.

God yes. The last episode is really challenging about the role of parents and the changes in society.

While I didn't have a father like the one referred to by Stephen Graham's character, he was a second world war veteran with all the crap that that entails. And there certainly was/is the attitude that I wasn't going to do that to my kids.

Fortunately I've watched it with my youngest and she and I have had a debrief after every episode. It doesn't solve anything, it certainly opens up lines of communication.

I hug my sons nearly every day and tell them that I love them. The 15 year old is all elbows and discomfort, and the 13 year old is quick to point out he isn’t a baby anymore. I have to initiate. But … and this is the important bit, they will both, at different times, reciprocate and we share a quiet moment of paternal love. I have a friend who is a psychologist and she has said on many occasions that this is a super important thing to do. I am also not afraid to cry in front of the boys if something moves me.

As a Greek Australian, I have grown up around people (ironically my Australian father was the exception) who were emotionally open and physically expressive. Cuddles, kisses, hair tousled, cheeks pinched, the full range of cultural ways of expressing love. I hope my boys keep it up.
