Pretty much spot on.
He’s miles off the pace but his name will take him
Far
He has played better than what he’s produced this year refer elim final , was a cracker ,,,,,,, maybe mini will unlock him , he’s moved a few others to max their output ,,, watch this space

Let’s see him work exclusively on his forward craft in the twos and not be asked to play up around the middle and at stoppages at all . Make him capable in that role before expanding his repertoire.

Do we have a genuine small forward on the Coaching staff or list that is guiding him? Not that I can think of. Its a specialist role. I’d like to see us bring one on board.

Can’t believe he is in the side this week on current form. I hope he proves the selection to be a great call.

A bit of perspective pal , we lost our two specialist small in mansell and Pickett he’s next obvious we turn too , it’s clearly a role that needs to be filled

Iirc last night he looked to square/pass the ball when imho he should have been shooting for goal. Definitely on one occasion he was too far out, but the goal square was clear and given the conditions I think if the kick was straight the ball would have likely skidded on through. Maybe trying to be too team oriented.

I’m still critical and last night showed the best and the worst of Rioli

His kicking distance is an issue he just can’t kick the ball very far and he did get out marked a fair few times but he also took some decent marks as well

But when he is in the right head space his defensive game is A+ that closing speed and repeat efforts causes dump kicks from oppo’s and turnovers giving our mids and defenders a good chance to stop the outlet plays

For mine hes is always going to be the type of player where you take the good with the bad and understand he’s never really going to be a weekly scoreboard threat but he does add to our forward mix

Agreed. Quick and agile are his best attributes. As such his best position IMHO is as a deep defensive forward. See ball, get ball, close enough to goal to score. See opponent with ball, chase, pressure, tackle opponent with ball, win free, force turnover.

He has his flaws with ball in hand but every time he's near the ball something happens. It's not always positive as he's still learning the nuances of the game like composure and reading the play.

But he just makes this constantly happen. You can't say that about many players on this list.

When you factor in his speed, defensive pressure and ability to pick the ball up cleanly off the deck I would actually say he's one of a kind on our list when it comes to small forwards. We need him to make it...

Agree but he doesn't need it drummed into him -as I suspect it has been- and it's not as if he has no attacking instincts or weapons.

He’s not clean
He falls over
Drops marks
Gets caught
Can’t kick

He is miles off it and for all the crap Mansell has copped, if Rioli played as well as Mansell, posters would be blowing loads.

He came back from the off season out of shape. He’s not the first and won’t be the last young player to do that

Hopefully he realises his drop in output this year is pretty much entirely due to that and doesn’t ever do it again

Would love to see them pick coulthard.
Probably seen as a little too fresh into our system though.
Maric played for the bottom team and Narkle played for the Top team.

Coulthard is less experienced than Narkle.

Now that Richmond are winning games I can't see any unforced changes
Hopefully Ryan is ok.

I wonder if hopper is ready he comes in , for mine , should play a VFL game , Ryan looked a. Worry , assume he’s out , soldo straight IN. Curious how intent they are to play marlion , I wouldn’t , throw him into VFL see how he goes and that his head is right

Yeah forgot about those 2. Hopper straight in. Pickett would have known about the burgs for a while before they became public knowledge and he's played ok up fwd.
But the team is winning. I guess Clarke, Hugo and Ross are first line. Hopper back means Cotch out of the middle.
Pickett for Ryan maybe with Miller back up ruck.

this. we were hearing last year we were going to get him into the midfield rotations but then he came back reltonesque and all development plans stopped. needs to have a serious think about whether he wants to be a career footy player or a flash in the pan.

Seems like a good kid, not too mention has his dads legacy to uphold. Not sure why he wouldn’t give it his best and leave no stone unturned. Still young. Sounds like needs tough love and competition for his position. Give Coulthard a go. Pretty exciting if those two both make it as our mosquito fleet

I’m certainly in the minority here but from being at the game, watching from Level 2, I thought he played a decent game. Especially considering he’s just come back from 6? weeks off with a hammy.
He didn’t touch it second half but the pressuring was still there to see. Unless they think Coulthard is up to senior footy, I’d keep MJR in the lineup as who else will provide quickness/pressure in the F50? Not Marlion, who many seem to want as his replacement imo.
