Playing up forward in the VFL after Laverde was benched with an iced right hamstring.

Would've thought his chance of playing forward at AFL level was slim to none a few weeks ago, even this morning. But the probability has improved a few percentage points between the injuries and having a crack at it in the VFL now... Going to be a very interesting selection next week.

I liked the minutes he spent on the ball.

He's exactly the sort of presence you'd expect him to be in congestion.

I don't know about him as a forward at the moment because of the combination with Stringer. Franga clearly does not have 14km of running up and down a wing in him so I don't know how he gives us what we need.

defence or middle
never really thought he'd make a good forward.

Nor do we need him down there
Rather see Langford in for Brown than Francis.

Happy to wait on him to hit his straps when Hooker is close to retiring. Took Rance a long time to become an elite AFL player.
But once he was there he sustained it for a long while.

Really hard to know what to do with this guy given his lack of any sort of tank. He's almost unplayable at AFL level as he is gassed too early and not sure thats good development for him.

May need to spend the whole year down at VFL level. Unless Ridley is injured or seriously out of form then there is very little that can happen.

The question I have is how did his tank deteriorate from late last season? He was running out games fine and playing damn good footy. Now he seems to be blowing up in the VFL. Unless he had significant disruptions to his preseason I'm thoroughly confused.

That's what has me concerned. I'm happy to be patient with him but I'm starting to worry he'll be one of the biggest what-ifs we've had.

I doubt he is out of the side because of his tank or that much has changed.

Ridley and Redman are better fits for the side and Francis was badly out of form. The use of Hurley and Ambrose is also an issue for Francis.

The comments about his tank should be specific to playing forward which will demand much more running than playing what is essentially a loose role at half back.

Very true.
There is zero rush with this kid
Parish the same if I'm honest. Unless they get impatient for playing time

I agree with this. He did extra work over summer but in reality it was his first full pre season. He showed a lot at the end of last year but he also had to spend a bit of bench time each quarter. They are just working him up now. Last year in the seconds he would come to the bench a lot. Since he has dropped back he has been playing 90% plus game time. It is just a miles in the legs keep building up the base he has never had. Given the low base it is no disaster IMO if he plays a bit of VFL.

im also happy that the kids are being made to earn it now that the seniors aren't dragging their arses around the oval.

I don’t think the seniors players are playing any better, just the support players are better.

Was he running out games ? of the 5 games he played the following game time. 65% 71% 93% 88% 76% . Compare that to Hooker who plays pretty much 90% plus every week pushing past 95% a lot of the time and Hurley who is at 85% plus every week and up into the 90% range in some games. The overall numbers where lowish for a defender. His time on ground this year was also a bit low with a couple at around 80% to start with and the last one at 77% although he did have some injury time in that.

There is a bit of both. Consistency to play 85% plus game time week in and week out and the fact that Redman is doing well and Ridley had the better form.
