Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

Chad Warner
DOB: 19 May 2001
DEBUT: 2020
DRAFT: #39, 2019 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Willetton (WA)/Aquinas College (WA)/East Fremantle (WAFL)

Let me know when he runs even half as hard without the ball as he does with it
Agree. Watched live at the SCG last week and Marvel yesterday. Needs to pull his finger out and perhaps watch 4hrs of Dan Hanneberry game tapes to see what this club once expected of a midfielder. Its not good enough.

I think we have to remember that he's only just about to play his 50th game on Friday night. Frankly, that he's been able to live up to the hype placed on him last year by continuing to be an influential player this year has surprised me. I was sure he'd have a down year this year after the disappointment of the GF and the weight of expectations around the competition. And whilst we need him to run harder defensively in the long-term, I have no doubt that'll improve over the next year or two. I couldn't imagine hoping for more than what he's given to this point in time.

Forgot he isn’t even up to 50

Weight probably on his shoulders this year especially after last and only one that stood up in the gf

Expectations to much

Him and Fox, I'd say. Agree on the expectations levelled at him - seems like a very impressive young man that he's been able to still play well despite such fervour around him.

The fact is, players can say they ignore the media all they want, but it's hard to ignore everything. So much is said about him, and he'll hear it.

Fair call.

For what he's achieved in his first 50 games is phenomenal, him and Gulden are two truly elite talents, but let's not put too much expectation on his shoulders too quickly.

Its been 20 years since Judd made his debut we haven't had a player like him in the competition since.

Some of Warner breakaway speed through the middle is reminiscent of Judd but thats where the comparisons end
I liken warner to petracca. He has similar burst as Judd but his brute power more resembles tracc. Judd was super polished.

Not a knock either way

Nah Petracca is more in the mould of JPK Warner is much more fleet footed than Petracca.

Judd had the qualities of strength power and absurd acceleration the rare treble.

Wonder how long it will be till another comes along I think he is a rarer talent than Franklin

Judd was truly one of a kind.

Even more impressive was that he was still in the elite tier of players in the game after injuries destroyed his pace, yes he was never quite the same again but changing your entire game to be a contested beast shows some crazy mentality.

He might be playing under specific instruction. He's our most dynamic mid, so I'm sure the gameplan involves the other mids taking the bulk of the defensive work while he looks to do the attacking work.

Not every mid in a side will have a 50/50 attack/defence role.

In saying that. Everyone should be accountable both ways. It's just that when your focus is on attack, it means you leave yourself open defensively, which is what I think people are seeing in Warner's game.

This bloke has gone from being an uncompromising team-first weapon, to a show pony on Viagra because all he does is shoot blanks.

Needs a BIG off season.
