Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

Chad Warner
DOB: 19 May 2001
DEBUT: 2020
DRAFT: #39, 2019 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Willetton (WA)/Aquinas College (WA)/East Fremantle (WAFL)

Get the feeling this story is only going to get more intense over the coming weeks now that he's purchased a property in Perth. It's tough for supporters like us who follow a northern club when it comes to retention in situations like this, but if he does choose to go then I just hope you guys get fairly compensated for all the hard work you put into his development to take him from a late second round draft prospect to one of the best players in the league.

Purchasing a near 3 million dollar property in Perth doesn’t scream investment property to me. The amount of growth to money spent ratio probably doesn’t warrant sitting on it for years

and the property is apparently exactly 17 minutes drive from both West Coast and Fremantle HQ. It was almost like he picked a spot in the exact middle, because he did.

Yea this moves seems orchestrated from a long way out. With how everything has been played out , freo meetings at crown, wce meetings on the golf course, house hunting , subsequent purchase of house and advertising rent till October etc….im starting to believe more and more that this was never a negotiation, rather trying to get more money out of the club like some believe , I think it’s more along the lines of painting the club into a corner come trade time , in case they have any ideas of biting the bullet and sending him to draft.

Threatening almost

I agree with 1 and 2.

The last paragraph does not make sense from someone who always makes sense.
There’s always an exception to make the rule ;p

I have been annoyed by how public Warner has made all this. If he is doing it all just to get a bit more out of the Swans, he won’t be my most loved player - as it comes at the expense of team focus and teammate salaries / squad depth.

For this reason, in a strange way I would feel better about him if he had decided to go, and he is just trying to get the best deal possible from his new club.

Love your posts RBBS. I really do.

My tip is don't get caught up in the speculation too much.
Chad is a Swan until he isn't. Until then, I just support him.

Nobody has said he purchased it as an investment property. It's not inconceivable that he and his partner found their dream home in the location they want to live their lives when they were home over Christmas, so purchased it with an eye to the future.
As I said in a post earlier, my husband and I stumbled upon our dream home on the Central Coast five years before we were ready to move up here and were lucky enough to be in the position to be able to buy it at that time, so we bought it and rented it out till we were ready to move up.

Albo's just done the same thing just down the road from me and he's not ready to move in just yet!

FWIW, Edmund and Cornes said on SEN this morning that he would be worth two top 10 picks if he was to leave.

So maybe the media gaslighting over his value won't happen this time like it did with Dawson.
It does work in our favour that two clubs are pursuing him and he doesn't specify where he wants to go unlike Judas.

Hey fellas just in response to a couple of the above posts for those that are interested:

Our ITK poster has consistently stated if you’d won the GF then Chad to WCE was a done deal. His mail has been excellent for a long time and I have no reason to disbelieve him. The Swans posters I’ve shared a few messages with would know that I wouldn’t post it if I didn’t know it or believe it.

The rental period for Chad’s WA purchase very clearly states until October 2025, with an extension possible depending on the owner’s circumstances. Read into that what you will.

Finally as I’ve said ad nauseam, if he wants to come to WCE you will be compensated well, I don’t think it would be much different to if he had left under contract at the end of last season so I wouldn’t dwell too much on that.

Preseason seems to be tracking well with big Cox seemingly stamping his authority early, still wish we’d got him.
How do you know we will be compensated well?

Looking at our trade history of notable (open to interpretation) names:

Baker-14
Brockman- 44, 63
Kelly, 57, Cats F3 for 14,24,37, F1
Jetta-swap for Sinclair
Redden-17
Yeo-28
Wellingham-17

Sure some worked out better than others and some were flops but at the time of trade I don’t think anyone would argue we underpaid for any of those players.

Two well run clubs that have always traded in good faith with each other, hid picks for each other etc. There’s also plenty of alumni at both clubs Cox, Pyke, Jack etc.

Obviously it’s never ideal to lose such a high quality player IF he requested a trade, but I don’t see a situation where you’re inadequately compensated.

We think Liam Baker is worth pick 14 FFS.
