Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

I don't understand though. If he wants to go back to WA so much, and has already decided he is going back, why didn't he request a trade a few months ago? Our bargining position would have been so much better in 2024 than it will be in 2025.
There was a rumour circulating he approached the club about a trade last year but they shut it down.

No doubt wce are “ renting” his new house to cover the mortgage repayments for the next 12 months

Prefer he stays obviously, but the whole year of chatter is going to be more annoying than him actually going.
What is disappointing is that this whole things has virtually been played out publicly. The meeting with freo at crown, the meeting with wce officials playing golf, house hunting in Perth and subsequently purchase of a house.

It appears more and more likely we never stood a chance in re signing him.

Am I the only one who's not so worried about the house purchase? Why would you buy a house a bit under 12 months before you intend to live in it? That's like the worst period of time to rent it out - renters are unlikely to want to move in for less than a year.

This purchase makes more sense to me as an investment he wants to rent out for a few years and then move into later. It says to me Warner doesn't see himself living in Sydney forever, but also probably isn't looking for the door immediately.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's still a pretty high flight risk end of the year, but I don't think this news has increased the risk, and if anything has maybe given me some hope he's thinking about Perth in the medium, rather than short, term.

If we win a flag Chad can go wherever he likes to be honest.

Quite frankly, I see him going either this year or a few years down the track when he becomes a free agent anyway.

The draft is always a gamble but at least we'd be getting maximum return for draft picks if he left this year compared to any supposed free agency compensation in 2028.

The key difference is getting more hits at the draft before the Tassie expansion waters down the talent pool.

If we secure a quality key tall (or any quality player for that matter) it keeps the window open longer than it would otherwise, particularly when our academy appears to be less fruitful compared to the Queensland academies at present.

I'm not gonna be one of those people who says we can replace a player of Chad's talents easily but as the Giants do, you have to embrace the churn and hope that other players bring a point of difference with their own skillset into the midfield.

Cleary and Sheldrick have their own talents to contribute as do the likes of Dattoli and even Campbell as well.

Let's hope Chad has a great year, regardless of his future plans and enjoy it for however long it lasts.

Yep maybe maybe not , but that's the thing , I just want to watch them play and win, not hear about Chad getting a house or taking a piss

We aren't winning anything so the whole flag and Chad thing is a weird connection.

I would of hoped to keep him get the most out of his prime and then when he is closer to 30 he can go home for his last contract but it seems unlikely this will happen

Hey fellas just in response to a couple of the above posts for those that are interested:

Our ITK poster has consistently stated if you’d won the GF then Chad to WCE was a done deal. His mail has been excellent for a long time and I have no reason to disbelieve him. The Swans posters I’ve shared a few messages with would know that I wouldn’t post it if I didn’t know it or believe it.

The rental period for Chad’s WA purchase very clearly states until October 2025, with an extension possible depending on the owner’s circumstances. Read into that what you will.

Finally as I’ve said ad nauseam, if he wants to come to WCE you will be compensated well, I don’t think it would be much different to if he had left under contract at the end of last season so I wouldn’t dwell too much on that.

Preseason seems to be tracking well with big Cox seemingly stamping his authority early, still wish we’d got him.

Great attitude, why I come onto the forums in the first place...

St Kilda wears red and white as well so maybe your bleak pessimism would be better suited to barrack for them instead.
