Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

Chad Warner
DOB: 19 May 2001
DEBUT: 2020
DRAFT: #39, 2019 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Willetton (WA)/Aquinas College (WA)/East Fremantle (WAFL)

Anyone else heard Chad is requesting a 1 year extension? Seems super strange to me, but thought I would post the scuttlebutt regardless.

Haven't heard that at all but if he is thinking that he should just go tbh.

Jesus F.C Chad its Sydney-Perth we aren't sending him to Haiti the entitlement these players have these days.

Sounds like the worst of all worlds. Imagine going through this every year!

Especially when we have to take 2027 picks which are highly diluted. If he only wants a year see ya, take WCE's first this year and their first in 2028, I'd actually avoid 2027 picks if we can. Tassie will pillage that draft

And ive said 2-3 for a long time

I've heard it is most likely to be 2, the club obviously wants 4 they wont get that, 3 would be a happy compromise, but I get 2 from Chad's end. 2 years allows him to play while we contend, then head home after that when WCE are contending (or starting to at least). It's the best of both worlds.

Pretty sure the AFL will stagger the Tassie draft hand across 2 drafts and force them to trade out some of the picks but from what i've heard its something like 10-12 top 15 selections between 2027 and 2028 ND.

Maybe, I'm still taking the 2028 draft, from a very early look that looks a better version. 2026 1st plus 2028 first and a swap somewhere.

He will sign with us for 2 years anyway

Interested to know what will happen to his brother.Personally I think at this stage a good chance he will play more games in the 1,s this season or I hope so.

Not sure he’s in our top side but maybe

I just think that Chad tries to burst through 10 opposition players on his own with run & carry which put team mates out of position, but Dawson was able to penetrate past 20 or so players with his kicking. That is pure gold as far as I'm concerned.

Chad is good but you find plenty of those types. There aren’t many Dawson types around could literally play anywhere

Our record in games without Warner since 2021, when Warner first became a regular in the best 22:

We're 10-4-1, average a score of 101.7 points and a winning margin of 34.6 points.

That win-loss rate of 66.7% without him is better than our rate with him (65.1%)

Not a player I'm bending over backwards to keep at all. He's one of those players who feels extremely indispensable when he is there, because so much of the game plan and what we do revolves around him. It's only when he's not there that others come to the fore and we become more of a "team." Less predictable, more dangerous. Similar to Buddy, but not as good, and not as reliable.
