WCE because it's a thread about Oscar Allen. They seem like the most relevant club in such a discussion.
As for them being past their worst....maybe, maybe not. 5 wins and a percentage of 68 isn't exactly proof of a massive revival. I'm sure like (almost) all clubs, their fans will see signs...
Yup.
The only variation I'd allow is within clubs (you can 'save' up cap space and use it in later years).
Even then, I'd have penalties (e.g. you can use 75% in later years), but I think the AFLPA would get upset at that.
The solution is easy.
Split WCE in two.
I'm sure all the enlightened WA fans who have been calling for Vic clubs to be kicked out 'for the good of the game' will understand that this is for the best.
More games in WA, less travel, better use of Optus, better attendance (no more membership...
Even if they did even better than that, snuck into finals and their F1 turned into pick 10-15...
You'd still take that.
THAT is how bad this deal was for North.
Honestly, I don't think the pick swap between Richmond and Brisbane was that good for Richmond.
They paid a LOT of points for pick 20, and probably could/should have done better....but they were all junk picks to Richmond, and they were probably exhausted by the end of trade week with all the...
I agree, but really, all clubs would want to get competing clubs to pay as much as possible (after all, they're COMPETING ), so if Brisbane will pay #2, then they'll try to get a bid done at 2 just to ensure maximum points are paid.
Handshake deals, and being able to claim that they got the...
North fans set the line at a convenient level where all their potential/likely trading partners will get '2nd rate' players if they don't trade with them, thereby requiring better trade offers to be made.
You're probably right, but I'm curious how deep that handshake deal goes.
If Richmond gets pick 2, would also apply to that pick?
If it does, could there be some funny buggers involved with Richmond agreeing with North that they bid for Ashcroft at 2, and then trade the pick.
But the point is that if you're looking to trade down and take him with a later pick (5/6/7/whatever), the knowledge that he'd be gone before that later pick came up would either force you to trade for a better pick or dissuade you from trading at all.
So if, say, Richmond floated this rumour...
If Melbourne or Richmond are seriously looking at #2, they should be leaking rumours that they're looking closely at Tauru for 5/6.
Force North to consider that if they trade with the Saints (or Richmond in Melbourne's case), they'll miss out on him in order to limit their options and drive a...
I'm sure nobody is telling anyone they're "farked". They all know they have to work with each other for years to come and so they'll be professional about it.
More like North comes to him with an offer of pick 2 for 6 & 10, and he tells them he's open to trading for 2, but they're not even...
Pick 1 is a lot more valuable than #2 due to things unrelated to the player it'll get.
It's a PR/ego thing as much as anything. It makes fans/sponsors happy.
It's why pick 1 wont be used to bid on Ashcroft, but pick 2 probably will. The team with pick 1 (in this case Richmond) wants to be...
This all makes perfect sense.
Only issue is getting another team to trade you a pick good enough to get Tauru and "a very good second pick", because it takes 2 teams to make a trade.
I suppose it depends on what you consider a very good second pick to be, and what future picks (if any) North...
That you used 6 different names for 3 picks shows just how even the draft is this year. (and there are a bunch more names that could be there too).
If I was Richmond, I wouldn't be in a hurry to move up 4 places. The player they'd take at 6 could easily have been in consideration at 2 anyway.
Depends how into Tauru North really is, and to a degree how much Richmond rates him too.
Assuming North really want him...
Richmond's offer for 2 would be 6+(late 1st) and a promise not to bid on Tauru, with some wiggle room to negotiate on which late 1st and maybe including later/future...
So what are you thinking they'll do?
They have 8 slots free (for reasons largely outside their control).
Do you think they'd be better off leaving them empty?
Maybe some DFAs?
Personally I think pick 24 in a good draft would probably turn out better than some guy that wasn't wanted by their...
North trading out their 2nd and 3rd rnd picks only makes sense to me if they're planning on trading pick 2 for (multiple picks).
Otherwise they have 2,62,80 which seems odd.
So I expect pick 2 will be shopped around and auctioned off.
Not sure they will.
They've had 4 players retire and 4 traded out. That's 8 list slots available and they have...8 good picks..
I imagine they'll look at promoting a rookie or two, and maybe plan to leave a slot free for a pre season supplemental selection, but they also have a bunch of...
