Started a new Top Spin 2K25 career this time on PS5. My player looks very Matt Damon-ish this time.

As I now know what I'm doing, I'm leveling up faster and thus should be able to get to grand slams quicker than the 8 seasons it took on Xbox. It was tricky at the start adjusting my shots accounting for the dual sense controller, haven't lost a set nor a game yet (came close a few times but managed to recover from 0 - 40 down to win the game).

Always liked career modes.. but correct me if I'm wrong alot of games like NBA you almost have to pay to become half decent?

It's been awhile since I've bothered Playing anything like that.

To a degree yes Top Spin, NBA 2K have modes (including the main career portion) that are essentially pay to win. Or rather "pay to make faster progress" in the game. You can play without paying for upgrades, but it's more of a grind (and I'm happy with that).

Hang on....they make you pay for career mode now? Wtf?! This is a joke, I thought it was just ProTeam equivalents

Its been a thing (particularly NBA 2K) for years. Like you can play and "grind" through the game naturally (hit benchmarks during matches to earn the in game currency that improves your player stats over time) or you can use real life money to buy currency packs to level up your player faster.

They call it pay to win - in the similar way of doing so for your pro team modes in games.

Wow that sickens me. Bring back cheat codes

Blue Prince. Amazing game.

The boiler room and pump room puzzles will be the death of me though. I’ll follow a YouTube video to the exact tee and I still can’t solve these puzzles. Ruining what is otherwise a great game.

Started it last night

Still trying to get my head around it

Don’t be afraid to Google stuff. It’s too hard to figure everything out on your own.

Never be afraid to Google for any game. I'm playing Jedi Survivor at the moment and have been Googling a lot.

+1 on just starting Blue Prince. Only had like 5 or 6 runs through so far. Definitely has promise.

Really needed something new because I’ve played too much fc25 this year and I need to let it go.

Might move onto the new Indy game after Blue Prince is done.

After which, it’ll nearly be time for the new GTA, I think.

I am enjoying Blue Prince, but my main criticism is how slooooooooow progress is. You figure out how to move forward then have 5 straight runs where RNG ****s you over. I reckon I know how to solve about four more puzzles at present but am waiting for the game to give me particular items, rooms, rooms paired together, or some combination of the lot.

Yes I've been a little frustrated by that and wondering how much luck is actually involved

I'm unlocking permanent buffs, which are helpful, but none of them really seem that impactful. Maybe I just haven't hit the right ones yet - but if the current rate of progress doesn't increase soon I'm not sure how much longer I'll stick with it.

It's an interesting idea at least

Yeah I'm coming to the conclusion Blue Prince is an awesome game to be played semi-regularly for short bursts (less than an hour at a time) and a so-so game for bingeing, due to the dependency on random numbers falling your way, like Dannnnnnnnnn alluded to above, and the frustrations of when they don't. I have these runs where I'm like 35 rooms in, where I still don't have a shovel or swipe card, and I'm like surely there has to be a mercy trigger in the backend of the game that ensures that once you reach particular milestones you have access to the basic shit you need.

(I'm about 12 or 13 hours in for context)

My other criticism is that once you've got a pretty good run going, it can be a bit tedious having to backtrack to a specific room way back near the entrance. Although... Counting ones steps has never seemed so tense, haha.

The game's mechanics have done a good job of latching itself onto my subconscious though. I find myself random thinking about how different combinations and approaches would work when I'm not playing.
