Personal attacks are also to be kept to a minimum.

Just a reminder, even if it hasn't come up for a few pages and y'all should know this stuff by now:

This thread is not about Covid, lockdowns, or vaccines. It is about Donald Trump. While Trump was in office during the pandemic and his response to Covid is relevant, there are pertinent threads for you to post your opinions on those things in.

It might also do with reminding a few that when you post on the SRP, you are responsible for backing up/verifying your claims to fact. What this means is that you will be asked time to time to support your claims with evidence, to ensure that this forum is as free of misinfomation as we can make it.

Do not post conspiracy theories on this forum. We have an entire other forum for that.

Thanks all.

Congrats Royces Hart on the new thread title!

Has trump played everyone for a sucker and gone after the main grift?

1. Imposes tariffs
2. Tanks the market
3. Junior and his cronies swoop in and buy cheap stocks.
4. Trump backflips on tariffs.
5. Markets recover
6. Mega profits for Junior and cronies.
Of course, a conman never presents you with what they really want at the start

Excellent analysis.
(Or is that anALYsis?)

I had not encountered the concept of the Trilemma of Globalism before. I think I’ve got my head around it, and it makes a lot of sense.

If you want to understand Triffin's Dilemma a bit more, read about the Plaza Accords of 1985.

The US was essentially in the same position it is now, hence some people argue some kind of instrument is needed to weaken the US dollar. Of course, Trump et al. don't get any credit because he and his acolytes are too stupid to do it in some rational way, too stupid to explain (ir)rational economic policy and too selfish to do it in partnership with allies, but there is a method to the madness.

I agree with what Aly is saying to an extent, but the economic argument around a lower US dollar, leading to lower rates, leading to greater investment, leading to Trump being able to grift further is important. We're going to see enormous liquidity come into the markets - because individual countries are going to have support their own industries - buttress any weakness in the short term.

Is politics leading the economics or is economics leading the politics? I'm not actually sure.

R/conservative is hilariously depressing to read sometimes.

There will be posters in there that go "I love what Trump is doing regarding the deportation of anyone that looks different to me, but I don't agree with these tariffs and think it will make it really difficult for us to win the midterms in 2026".

Like no s***, Trump isn't looking ahead to the midterms or even the 2028 election, his goal is full on dictatorship you idiots.
Why not? The triple Teflon coated tangerine tosser has got this far without ever being held accountable for his actions :(

Oh here's a thing. There are exceptions to the tariffs. Mainly around 'critical minerals not available in the US'.

Uranium is apparently one of those. I think we can all see where the LNP will be going if they get into power.

So will Albanese. Albanese is already raising the prospect of using critical minerals as a bargaining chip in negotiations with the Trump administration.

In short, the Trump administration is trying to reduce even its so called "allies" to the same level of helplessness as Ukraine.
