2 behinds 19 Disposals for Reid. LOL Yea "good" game... as opposed to Berry's 15D and 1 behind.
If you want to talk numbers then tell the whole story. Reid is infront of berry so far. 2 behinds and 19 disposals to you but if you looked deeper that includes 10 score involvements to berrys 4. 74% efficiency with 0 recorded turnovers to berrys 60% and 4 turnovers. Reid also made 5 tackles with 3 inside his own forward 50 to berrys donut.

They’re inevitably going to draw comparisons because of how similar the positions they play and what number they were taken in the draft. Right now Murphy Reid is ahead and thats totally fine. Not every 18 year old is ready right away and i highly believe the system and culture that they are brought in with play a massive role. We are in tatters with kochie, a cooked succession plan, no clear idols/figureheads/leadership group and a vanilla captain. Watch Serongs demeanour today especially when Voss was arking up against an eagles player when freo had a shot on goal. Nancy Rozee would never do that.

We are what 3 games in. Both boys will have long and illustrious careers. Just like with anything in life some people take a bit longer to come on then others

Moraes looks good ,Whitlock is showing something.
Berry I never liked and wanted Reid.
In saying that you have to feel sorry for Berry, poor kid has just put his shorts on and is thrown into the AFL side because we have zero depth.
He definitely looks a bit lost out there and I don’t blame him.
Hopefully he’ll come good but playing in our side at the moment can’t be great for his confidence.
Berry has looked fine at AFL, his timing at the fall of the ball, his tackling and speed has been on display already. He was a quality kick at junior level and you don't just lose that skill. He just needs to be backed in and be a bit more composed.

I badly wanted Reid too, in fact I still wish we'd taken him, but that doesn't mean that I think Berry has played bad. He's actually had a lot of nearly moments and it will come together in time. Can't drop him.

The premature adjudication in this thread for a young bloke who has played 3 games for a dysfunctional team with a coach who would have failed plasticine modelling in kindergarten must be dripping off some poster's screens!
The poster uproar over some mild commentary questioning the performance of a high draft pick is equally as pathetic. What’s the point of having BigFooty if a critique of a players output is off limits. So many weak minded posters in here that are probably still club members for equally weak reasons.

As a general rule, I completely agree with you. In Berry’s case, while I haven’t yet seen enough to be satisfied we used the right pick on him, the signs are there that he will be a very good footballer playing a role that we have been lacking in for some time. It’s hard to be overly critical of him when most of his senior teammates haven’t been at their best at this early stage of the season.

En masse, I think the haul of Berry, Moraes, Cochrane, Lai, Whitlock and Richards will prove to be a very good influx of longterm talent for our list at the end of 2024. Lukosius, I don’t rate. Time will tell.

He missed shots for goal he should have nailed (probably just nerves), but he also hit targets with nice passes. If I had to choose between Boak and Berry to nail a pass the choice is obvious (yeah, not a high bar).
Against Essendon he butchered three or four kicks inside 50 as well, killing momentum. Probably just a confidence or fitness thing though, I remember Wingard doing similar in the HFF role he played year 1, everything looks amazing until they fluff the last line.

I like Boak as a person and someone who has been loyal to the club.
Unfortunately your going to need to upgrade your comparison to make your point even distinctly relevant.

After 3 games, the jury is still deliberating. Still the well executed kicks I seen gives me some optimism

like others, I maybe thought there were better options at the draft.

However, Joe certainly has speed and agility to burn. Skills during the draft year were excellent.

What he has shown, more so in games one and two, is that he has serious forward craft and game smarts/sense. He doesn’t have the fitness or strength yet to always deliver but I don’t think we have anything to worry about.

He’ll play that speedy, creative half forward role that we desperately need and that the best sides have.

A good couple of confidence boosting hit outs in the SANFL will do him good.
