Need to use the ball better forward of centre. Sometimes we extract the ball out and hit a target, sometimes we just bomb it long.

Need to make it easier for ourselves.

I feel the same but in the opposite way.

Sure, I get it’s AFL. I get that it’s a little more scientific than kicking long.

But I genuinely believe we make it harder for ourselves by too often not kicking long to a contest.

Caleb Daniel is a perfect example. He just refuses to kick to a 2 vs 2 long down the line. Instead he does 1 of 3 things:

1: try and make an aggressive kick and turn it over (approx 50%)
2: try and make an aggressive kick an make it (approx 25%)
3: hold onto it, invite pressure, try and kick long but under kick it (approx 25%)

Think back to our six goals in 6 minutes against the dees. How many were long kicks that created havoc?

1: curtis first
2: larkey second
3: larkey third
4: Zuhaar first from Curtis was a long kick to 1 vs 1 to forwards advantage
5: Zuhaar second
6: Curtis second the only one that was a spot up pass that doesn’t fit the mold

When i played footy a long kick to a 2 vs 2 was not something to be scared of.

Sure, don’t kick to a 3 vs 2.

But we make it so hard for ourselves by not kicking long and Quickly to our forwards when there are even numbers forward of the ball.

We could have cut 50% of our score from turnovers by kicking long and direct. We have darling now who is good at making a contest.

I do agree but at the same nearly every side bombs it long under certain circumstances.

Its better to take the territory and set up defensively so that you can get multiple i50s and hit a target in a good spot with one of them.

Long bombs to 50 with a stoppage are the Aussie Rules equivalent of a long kick for touch.

I really just want to find room for Maley. Take the pressure off X and give us a genuine contested marking threat deep inside 50.

We are going to lose much run if we drop Phillips for him.
Not that much.

I thought he didn't play on the weekend because he was the traveling emergency? If so he's not sick or injured?
That's right, d'oh!

That's a positive thing then.

If he has a good week on the track bring him in for Tucker, drop Stephens and make Tucker sub.

Daniel needs to pull the trigger on one of the first six options he assesses every time he gains possession rather than hold on to it until he has evaluated another 5 to 10 options. The perfects seems to have become the enemy of the good for him.

Kicking long to a 1v1 situation is fine. Kicking long to a pack is where I draw the line though. Just need to hit targets on the lead more often.

Need to work our arses off to get separation. We used to have one of the most potent and dangerous forward lines in the comp under Brad. It hasn't been that level since.

100%. And he is the most obvious example. But I feel like that’s permeated the team.

A nicely weighted long kick to the advantage of in form forwards isn’t the worst option. And it would certainly reduce scores against from turnover.

I think there’s a difference between a set pack and a 2 vs 2 especially where the defence isn’t settled.

I live quick ball movement by hand or by centring kicks but there has to be a time and place for that vs quick long kicks into the forward line that advantage our forwards and make defenders nervous
