Review R3: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. North Melbourne

Bit of a strange game. Extremely sloppy first half (from both teams) and just an all-time shocker from the mob in green. The game neatened up a little in the second half, and we were able to get the job done.

Peatling had one of those games where everything either looked fantastic or terrible. To his credit, he finished better than he started. Hs ability to get the ball inside and then exit the contest in a split-second is as good as I've seen.

Hinge outstanding, Laird was excellent as well. I've seen a few comments on here about how he wasn't that good and people rating him are just looking at stats, but I thought he was great. Brilliant ground-ball handling, 26 (out of 32) effective disposals, mostly to teammates in good positions, I really liked his game. Michalanney really solid, especially early on. Rankine worked his way into the game well, as did Soligo. Thilthorpe is just a beast, started off a little slow but was dominating by the end.

Worrell would have to be the best smother in the AFL, right? I swear he gets two or three every week!

On the negative side, poor performances from Keane, Borlase, Milera and Sholl. If it wasn't for Murray's injury, I'd be calling for Keane to be given a rest, but with Murray also out, I think we need to swap Borlase for Butts and give Keane one last chance. Sholl and Milera should turn into Dowling and Nankervis. Fogarty quiet today as well but no need to change anything there. Still managed to kick two goals despite barely touching the footy.

Fingers crossed Rachele will be okay. Was a nasty hit!

I have no idea where Curtin is playing. Just seems to bob up all over the ground, sometimes he's up forward, sometimes he's on the wing, then he's suddenly mopping up in the defensive goal-square??? He had a good game, great to see him get reward for effort today. You'd take 15 touches and 2 goals every week. Draper a little quiet, but does so many nice little things, and two goals from him is also great reward for effort.

I'm convinced after today that North are a pretty decent side. They have some genuine quality in the midfield, some good forward targets who can all kick the ball, and a decent defence. Sounds kind of like us, actually.

Bad: Milera
+
Ugly: Milera - if you don't want to do the hard stuff, Nank has to play. He was like a spectator today.
Yes, I thought he was poor today. Too many mistakes, low-to-no impact.
Sholl still looks and plays like a scrawny, underfed boy.
Keane is still not good one-on-one.

Ugly: Channel 7 commentators, led by Nick Riewoldt, throwing a tantrum over the stop of play because of Rachele's injury. Nick cried "Since when do we stop the game for winded players?"
More Ugly: Nick Riewoldt doubling down at half time after learning Rachele was subbed off and it was more serious than being "winded"
Even More Ugly: Nick Riewoldt crying about Keane for staging. This guy is fully Vic biased, why the hell did they drag him over to commentate on this game?
News.com.au released an article about Crows flopping and conveniently never mentioned the Roos players doing it.

The year we get Gold Coast twice is the year they are finally good.
The more tests, the better. Besides, we've played them twice in a season plenty of times.

We are going to get nothing from the umpires next week... but it's not like we are getting a good run from them.

He's like a spectator every week.
I've been saying this for a while. He doesn't defend, he doesn't put his body on the line, he doesn't use his pace and he rarely uses his kicking skills to their maximum.

He's being picked purely on reputation. A reputation that is about 4 years old.
I think it's reasonable to give him a run of games to see if he still has the potential.

I unfortunately have not seen the game but I watched the highlights and one thing that stands out is our pace. Oh my its impressive and an aspect that surely must scare the opposition when trying to plan for us. One side benefit to this is guys who were a bit bulky and slower in previous years like Crouch look like they have slimmed down now and have found an extra gear. Everything is pointing in the right direction and honestly. Draper willing to take on the defense and bounce while being chased down even looked like he could find another gear if he had to. That dude is quick.
