From the weekend results.

OI beat DLS.
Fitz beat Collegians.
Caulfield just lost to Noble Park
Willy beat a country side by 7 goals after being almost equal at 3rd time. Young forward kicked 8.
Carey beat NFNL Div 2 side Whittlesea by 10-12 goals.

Don't sleep on old Carey. They won't finish last. They have got a lot of money behind them and a wonderful group of young players out of the Coates league to grow as a team together. They have topped up with some good players from lower divisions and have people like Micheal Roach behind the scenes helping. Old Carey will challenge for the finals.

Like all clubs, Old Carey are desperate for sponsors and rely on a small few to help out financially to allow for trainers and physio etc. Old Carey are poor, but that’s the same as everyone so I’m sure there’s no complaining, just hard work and appreciation for the very few generous supporters that allow them to even have a program.

If you want to know anything about Old Carey, you go to the St Andrews Hotel in Fitzroy. That is where the old mates from Old Carey whet their whistle. I try to go every third Tuesday. They have a great $25 Steak night and/or an $18 PARMA.

Most of the associated Old Carey people are there at some stage or another and I can tell you they are very buoyant about their season and progress. It will be fun to watch.

I think you will find Dan Houston did go to Carey. Dan played for Greythorn and attended Carey Grammar but definitely Rowell and Anderson went to Carey, they were joint school footy captains and now they have ended up at the Gold Coast Suns together. Some Synchronicity there.

Houston and Jaicos both went to Camberwell. Naicos went to Carey. But hey.. Camberwell are also in B Grade.

Naicos (as being dubbed in this post), did in fact attend Camberwell GS thru year 9. Then was ‘poached’ over to Carey (scholarship inducement).
This was directly from the ex Carey Principal of the time (known as a teacher from his Wesley days).
That along with Rowell & Anderson helped Carey to the APS footy silverware, breaking the shackles of the usual suspects who generally raffle it….

Yes, it must have been a mighty team with those three superstars playing.

The current Old Carey team have galvinised itself in a youth program.

Some of the kids are straight out of the Coates program and just not quite to VFL level.

And they poached a couple as well. Glen Eira's best young player who was in the Div 1 team of the year has gone to Old Carey and that should bolster up their running.

Old Carey beat Macleod by a point today with a kick after the siren. Great hit out for both sides.
Old Carey won all 4 games, womans, 2nds, Unders and Seniors.
