Can we give somebody, anybody, apart from Taranto Hopper and McIntosh a go in the centre. Sonsie and McAuliff need to be given a chance to play midfield because that’s their natural position. We need to give Banks, Smith and Green a go as well. These kids spend most of their time chasing their opponents into our defence because our midfield might get first use out of the centre but the ball seems to immediately end up in our defence. No offence to Taranto, Hopper and McIntosh individually but can we try some different combinations because what we are doing isn’t working.

We are stuck with Taranto and Hopper for the next 50 years, people want Taranto forward but we are already too slow all over the ground. We are going to have to do a Hawthorn and move them both on to open up their spots. Take a token late pick and pay half their wage. As long as they are here, they will be playing in the middle.

I feel like the only reason they are getting games is because we are too young. And I get that, but at some point a conversation has be be had that you are not a walk up start just because you've played 200 games.

I'm going to say something controversial.
If we as a club are concerned that Taranto or Hopper will seek a trade if they're not playing in the middle then we just have to cop it and let it happen.

They were horrendous in that second half and the fact that they REFUSED to try them elsewhere and put ANYONE else in the middle is scary moving forward.

We have so many kids that are going to need midfield exposure and if Taranto and Hopper are not willing to sacrifice mid minutes for the benefit of the team then they aren't Richmond men.

Say what you will about Sonsie but if he can get it 35 times at VFL level then why at 60 points down not at least try him in there to see if anything comes of it???

I don't get it.

Sonsie has had more than enough time. Hard to justify continually giving him.a run when McAuliffe, Smith and Banks haven't been afforded the same opportunities at AFL level.
Sonsie needs a role.
To me he’s has to fill the lambert half forward position.
Kmac 2 plays centre so takes either Ross, Dow, Taranto or Hoppers spot.
Banks is a winger.

Like for like please.

3 games difference between Banks and Sonsie (23 vs 26), and I think we can all agree that Banks has played in his preferred position/role more often than Sonsie has.

Not sure what McAuliffe has necessarily done better than Sonsie if the consensus is that we want McAuliffe to presumably play midfield, yet want to give up on Sonsie despite not playing him in his best position/role.

How many times do we need to see a player move to a different club and be played in the position they were drafted in/excelled at in the VFL before we change our minds on these kinds of things.

100%

I feel as though we are going to be gifting midfield minutes to TT and Hopper for the next 5 years just to justify their contracts.

In the next couple of years, I think we all want to be seeing a starting midfield of Lalor, Smillie, Hotton, Rodriguez. If hopper can’t play midfield then there is no other place for him in the team.

1 step forward, 3 steps back, welcome to Richmond 2025.

We all wanted to see a response after the game against Port and for the first half we got that response, but once the Saints had half time to adjust to what we were doing they were able to open us up too easily too often and once the scoreboard started ticking over we were never going to be able to recover as we just don't have the players to be able to halt momentum when teams get that run on.

That will happen when any side has 11 players under 30 games with 8 of them under 20 & 6 under 10. What do people expect, that we'll play like we did in the 2nd half against Carlton every week. It's not going to happen, so head to the game or watch on TV and look for those glimpses from the young players that show you they could be a long term option. There were some of those signs today from some of them including a whipping boy that gets potted relentlessly on here.

As far as next week is concerned if Banks passes concussion protocols I'd bring him back in and I'd like to think that Ryan will get some serious consideration after a strong start to the VFL season to give Nankervis some genuine support in the ruck and Lynch a chop out inside F50.

Remember folks, patience is the key in 2025 and winning games isn't as important as the development of the younger players.

No Ryan. He's still a petulant and lazy child

For what? WCE guy didn't get weeks and Lalor had a broken jaw. Guy was holding Mansell. This is the AFL's fault... they didn't act when they should have.
they didnt act 2 times after that either ...

suddenly they are going to act now cos its Richmond

Both Hopper and Taranto played forward a lot at GWS.

Fact but ****ing sad !

Disappointing to see the post half time result, especially given our post half time results in the last two games. . But Ross Lying is still tactically a good coach. We didn’t adjust.
Replacing one of our key mids with another slow mid is not necessarily the answer. It’s about being everyone on the same page. Given our player list and coach changes, I’ll wait a bit yet before calling for some heads.

Taranto would be a sneaky good forward. When he won our BnF he kicked a stack of goals because he wasn't playing fulltime midfield minutes.

The giants had speed all over the ground, we don't. Also the game has changed a lot over the last few years. Look at teams like Carlton and Melbourne fall rapidly as they dont have speed.
