Essendons coterie groups still would a lot of power. There are 2 players i know of that are getting a game because the coterie groups threatened to pull funding if they didn't play.

These same groups continually campaign for the likes of hird.

The club is stuck in the 80s
Really?
I find this hard to believe

How can a team that won 15 straight off-season periods be in this position?
Surely their fans can't have lied when year after year they derided us all with how good their trading and drafting was.

Something doesn't add up, a team that dominates every draft and every trade period shouldn't be even close to what the Bombers currently are......

Who told you that lol?

Our trading and drafting has been ****in rubbish for 15 years.

Their position is worse with Tassie coming in. They have a core of older players who need to be replaced with equal young talent, and that doesn't appear to have happened.
No real young super talent mids, poor quality backs, with a couple of young forwards.

They either need to get busy rebuilding now, or spend a decade at the bottom.

I find it difficult to understand how it happened, but don't find it hard to believe. It's still a boys club in the AFL, and the coteries wield enormous power behind the scenes.
Some clubs have managed to distance themselves. I know the hawks had a lot of issues with them 30 odd years ago, but managed to increase experiences (free corporate boxes etc) to transition away from the off-field influence

Could try to trade players to Tassie for their “experienced core”

Which 2?

What has hurt Essendon is that their first rounders over the past 7 or so years have been poor. What's hard to determine though if it's drafting issue or a player development issue once at club.

I get the impression that bird of Hird returning and all has flown
May have been the case 3 years back but not now
I think you're right his opportunity to return has passed but he and Lloyd will for sure continue to be a big part of a 'get Essendon people back to Essendon' movement.

It will be something bomber nuffies want until the day he takes his last breath.

You only have to look at social media over the weekend to see that they’re already in the comments saying “ we need to get Hird back”

From what it sounds like only a very select few are ‘safe’ with everybody having a price

Really hope this is true there is 3 guys that got recently resigned for 6 years that i hope is up for sale

ditto the 2016 draft where it could have been a raffle for pick 1 (McGrath, McCluggage, Taranto) not a generational stand out pick 1 like Harley Reid, Sam Walsh etc

Just bad luck on top of an already poor resume meant we'll likely suffer the consequences of the previous regime for a few years longer
Sam Walsh … stand out pick 1 .. 🤣

Bombers need to get desperate and tip all in for Harley Reid.

actually, dont think we do it at all, not if it takes 3 x firsts to get him.

Trust Rosa not to be dodo and actually select good picks.

Reid aint fixing the hole we are in.

But he might, it’s worth the risk. If it works out the coeteries can then white ant Brad, bring Hirdy back and then usher in the next 100yrs of Essendon supremacy.

With Essendon’s track record you probably hit 1 in 3 of those picks anyway. So the other two picks are a write off.
