In 2020, Josh Dunkley requested a trade to Essendon while still under contract.
Essendon had three top 10 picks that year, along with their future first intact.
The Bulldogs were projected to select Ugle-Hagan at pick 1 in the 2020 draft so 2020 picks weren't much good to them that year.
On trade radio, Adrian Dodoro came out and declared Essendon's future first is off the table, full stop.
Essendon's final offer for Dunkley was a 2020 first and second round pick, which the Dogs rejected.

Fast forward to the 2022 off season, out-of-contract Dunkley requests a trade again, this time nominating Brisbane as his preferred destination. Brisbane get the deal done for basically two late first round picks. Brisbane go on to make two Grand Finals in a row, winning one of them, and Dunkley playing an integral hard-edged defensive role in midfield.

I've heard Essendon fans trying to claim they didn't actually need a player like Dunkley, and that they were better off pulling out of that trade. I call bs, because Dunkley is a genuine A-grader who would walk into any side, and clearly played a big part in elevating Brisbane to the next level. There is no way you can convince me he wouldn't add a lot to Essendon's side right now.

That future pick Dodoro was refusing to trade ended up being used on Ben Hobbs.

It's just one result of allowing Sheedy to shoehorn Dodoro into the club and cement him as an immovable object. D'Ambrosio walking to Hawthorn is another. The Dodoro ego knows no bounds. Attempting to sue the club for moving him on from a job he's not qualified to do tells you all you need to know. Forget recovering from the drug saga, it'll take far longer to recover from the Dodoro cancer.

I really dont think we are in a position to criticize anyone and we are a worse football team considering our top 6 players compared to the Bombers.

Every team has draft and trade hits and misses. Houston wanted to be a Carlton player and we baulked. 🤦‍♀️😏

They may have. Essendon hasn't been a team for a while that's noted for being hard working, and Dunkley would have at least provided that.

Still, hard to really go too hard at Essendon here. They had, and still have, far worse problems then a missed trade.
