Coach Men's Senior Coach: Brad Scott - Will appear on AFL360 coaches night on Monday 24th

And it would be fair to think that Rosa and co have had this conversation also. Which is why they went with a 3 year plan.

2024 - draft hard in a deep draft, which was surprising because we did it in an unannounced way. Already the signs are that we may have picked up a few gems.

2025 - invest in the draft again, nail the two top 10 picks or trade for Reid and build the side around him (similar to Brisbane and Neale)

2026 - Trade and Free Agency for tilt at flag.

2027 - same as 2026.

Scott mentioned about list turnover in the preseason. The signs of this being a tough year were already being presented.
yep, someone mentioned somewhere that post 2025 could see some tough calls to some players (finally) made. Think Reid, Cox, Hobbs, Tsatas etc

Not young, youngest.

Games like this are gonna happen and to be fair we haven't conceded such a score in a while. Crazy how more experienced sides are afforded such days yet somehow we aren't due to preconceived unrealistic expectations borne out of frustration.

Why should the current crop not be afforded the same opportunity to develop like other young sides? And to stumble like they have? Because you're agitated over history? That's something they had nothing to do with.
100% agree.
And we can expect that the young guys will fatigue earlier in games, earlier in the season, than the rest of them. This is when we should be eyeing the senior players on the list for trading or delisting at year's end. Drop the deadwood and spare me the good bloke rubbish.

Mentioned earlier in this thread, if we started bad ( we clearly have) then he is in serious trouble. Only so many pitiful displays a coach can survive who is now in year three.

How have we started bad because of one game? Last week many saw as a commendable loss in which we won most stats despite our inexperience. So please tell me how have we "clearly" started bad other than it being you literally taking one match and using that as the definitive result of our start?

As mentioned already we are inexperienced as hell with a club that has had to be turned over from top to bottom. We are due to be pumped on occasion. Many coaches survive (and have) past year 3 of their 4 or 5 year contract provided the expectations are realistic considering the list/club and where it's had to come from. Yours weren't.

We desperately need to develop our kids, and it will be painful, but treading water will just exacerbate the current situation where we are not sure which of our young guys are capable AFL footballers.

Scott, please don’t replace a Hobbs or Tsatas or Roberts with a Setterfield etc etc. The torch should be on the McKays, McGraths, Redmans and Shiels instead.

As mentioned already we are inexperienced as hell with multiple players that haven't played together for long, either due to injuries, being recently recruited into what was already a work in progress or having had to debut. Hawthorn loss was 26, felt like double that. They just kept at us at arms length the whole night. Yesterday was a shambles. All I'm saying is if these results keep happening he's in trouble. We all know how the industry works. Next the poor bastard will receive is " the full support of the board" which often precedes the sack.

Maybe to you but from most spectators it was commendable. You dabbled in hyperbole due to angst as a result of yesterday. It's fine.

Nah I reckon we're done with the 3 year wash cycle and have our heads wrapped around what the task is.

I think the one thing keeping Scott safe is the board right now are intent on sacking underperforming players rather than coaches.

He’ll be fine for another 2 years at which point the goal would be to be on the upswing

Id personally be playing the newly drafted youth to beef up the games they will have played by the time their older.
Shiel should not touch the side unless absolute emergency or to give a young guy a break to freshen up.

Or we can have these guys sit in the 2s and by the time they are 23-24 they will have 5 senior games.

People can develop in the AFL and those that are truly not ready can play along seasoned bodies in the vfl.

Include in the VFL a couple guys on long term contracts who are needed to be forced out of this club. If they want senior games they can play elsewhere.

Hanging our hat on being young is stupid, being young and good is what we want, we're young and super average.
Unfortunately we aren’t young and good, not even average.

We had 5 first round picks over a 3 year period and not one of them has yet shown them self to be a regular best 22 AFL footballer, let alone an A grader.

That has really hurt us.

100% this.

Agree. My fear is that players like El Hawli or Lual or who ever will be kept in the VFL and not tried at the top level at all or only superficially. This is where Rosa needs to be proactive and talk list strategy with Brad, knowing that we're not anywhere near the pointy end of the comp.

Anyone here think Trainor and Armstrong are truly ready for AFL footy?

Last week Armstrong struggled and Trainor looked good, this week was the complete opposite, fact they're getting to develop at the top level will accelerate them as footballers.

Throw our young boys into the deep end, let em fight and figure it out, rest em when they need it. Hayes should be on 20 games already, has to debut Thursday.

Find a way to extract consistent effort
Competitors only - been saying it for ages.

Edwards and Roberts commit their bodies despite not having AFL physiques. Others who are far more developed do not.

Anyone looking for bruise free footy can piss off. At this stage I want 22 blokes who’ll have a crack….we are so far off being a team who needs or can carry a “cherry on top” type it’s not funny.

Lots of talk about standards - the first standard must be playing like you care and competing.

- Jones forward / relief ruck

- Drop Bryan

- Keep playing kids

- Drop Shiel permanently. He’s not up to it

- Drop Hobbs unless he can play predominantly midfield

And the biggest

I am all for dropping Hobbs but who have we got that provides the same levels of pressure ?
That is the issue. There is no Walla in the VFL. There is Menzie or Unwin who has not set the world on fire yet. Davey has just played his first game back from injury.
We are a side that has limited hard nuts yet we want to leave out one of them and replace him with ? A player who will not bring the same level of pressure ?
That is my issue. He was one of a few who put in some effort yesterday so despite the few poor kicks again he busted a gut to try and get something to happen including chasing other players opponents.

Happy to leave him out if Davey plays a few good games or Unwin starts to perform but that has not happened yet .

We have bigger issues than Hobbs IMO.

That is why I find those calling for Hobbs to be dropped a little amusing. Yes it is a longer term issue but he is a competitor and we lack competitors. Not saying you are calling for it 👍

There’s a reason why they extending him before the season, they knew this year was going to be tough playing a bunch of kids, and could easily go further south with injuries to our leaders. Would be impossible to extend him after a year finishing bottom 4. Let’s be honest last year we are bottom 4 if you take merrett out of the side, we are probably bottom 2-3 this year if you take him out of the side.
