Appalling start to the season, especially defensively. The starting pitching probably has done better than expected but they've been let down by some really bad fielding. Really contributed to losing the second game of the opening series against the Slegna.

It is an early hot take, but right now the Athletics will be vying with the Rangers for worst in the AL West.

At least Matt Chapman has started the season in form that would put him in Gold Glove contention and Olson has also been good at first base. The outfield is a disaster, though.

Think I've finally decided to follow a team, and Athletics is my choice :thumbsu:

welcome aboard, but prepare yourself for frustration and heartbreak.
also, don't get too attached to any particular player, they'll be traded soon enough

To be fair, Billy Beane said last season that they're keen on building a core of players and recognise the need to have a modern home ground to stop the bleeding of talent. It's on the A's to find a permanent home that is suitable for modern-day baseball.

It actually makes more sense for me to go for the Dodgers. I spend half the year in Los Angeles, and go to a lot of their games, but for some reason I just can't quite embrace them to the point where I'm actively cheering them.

If only the Athletics were in the diabolical AL Central, still well within reach of the 2nd wild card though
A's have the 6th best w/l in MLB, we went past the Angels pretty swiftly, I think we'll pick up the Mariners as well considering our bullpen has now been bolstered

25-7 since June 16th

Another win - fifth in a row. Khris Davis hits two home runs to pull the A's from a 5-1 deficit to a 6-5 lead and then Treinan came in to pitch the ninth and get the save. Mariners won, so still 1.5 games back on the wildcard spot. If the A's were in a division other than the AL West and AL East, their record would be good enough to be leading the division. Makes my early season hot take look pretty woeful in hindsight.

600th win for Bob Melvin as manager of the A's, with a 6-2 win over the Blue Jays at the Coliseum. Astros beat the Mariners in Seattle, so we're just one game back from the Mariners in the standings (same number of wins but two extra losses). Astros are four games clear of the Mariners and five games clear of the A's.

Astros winning so far against the Angels.

I watched that game against the Mariners yesterday - came right down to the last pitch. That three run burst in the 8th certainly made the game interesting.
