Funnily enough, my OPINION is that your's was a really poor post.
Probably could be argued that he is. Certainly the best of his era. Started the new trend of ruckman being an extra on-baller, not just a ruckman.
Thomas and wells get alot of talk about how good they can be, but aren't, therfore are over-rated.
The fact that you have just posted this, shows that they definately are over-rated.

He's getting there I believe, over 20 goals this year. Good on him, despite injury-very important in our side.

Dale Thomas isnt over-rated anymore, collingwood supporters have seen the light and realise he is average at best. Just took them 3 years of over-rating him to realise this. (where did all those saying he is better than murphy gone?)
Ablett overated in the fact everyone thinks he is the best because he gets 40+ possies every week (most of them meaningless handballs). Still #1 but not as far ahead as most believe. (the AFLPA association best player isnt a good guide to who the best player is. All players have to vote and majority would watch maybe 1 or 2 games a week, they only vote on media hype)

Oh, I almost forgot, a few more overrated players being Lindsay Thomas, Gavin Urquhart, Jack Ziebell and Daniel Pratt.
Oh, and for everyone who says Dean Cox is the best ruckman just because he can rove the ball, go back in time or just buy the "Sensational Seventees" DVD and watch how every single ruckman in the entire fricken league had to rove the ball all the time and pretty much never come off the ground. Hell I even rate Sandilands over Cox at the moment, at least Sandilands is more of a team player as opposed to a Cheapie getter.
Oh and Ablett junior, IMO, isn't the best player in the league but because several people claim otherwise, I THINK... he's overrated.

There has been a few dubious calls in this thread and quite a few I don't agree with (eg GAJ) but to call Dean Cox over rated is just insane. The guy plays like a mid fielder while at the same time being a full time ruckman without help in the majority of the games he plays in. And don't forget he is also playing in a team at the foot of the ladder... this is something I'd expect to hear from Caro on footy classifieds to get attention but not from someone who is a genuine fan of the game.
Ryan Griffin would go close to it for me.
The bloke should be a star of the game and at times he reminds us of the talent he has. But for large periods of games he just goes missing. Hopefully he will turn it on soon as IMO he has more pure talent than just about anyone in the comp.

This is exactaly why I think he's overrated. If you just took time back a decade you'd know that Dean Cox wasn't the first to be a rover as well as a ruckman. Just look at Simon Madden/Jeff White/Adam Goodes etc.
Oh and reverting a few posts back, how is Murphy overrated? The only players from the Bulldogs that I think would be overrated are Cooney and Griffen but the rest of the players barely get a mention, including Murphy of course. Matt Campbell and Lindsay Thomas on the other hand...
Don't think Simon Madden was about in '99.
Don't think Adam Goodes is a ruckman.
Don't think Jeff White is any good. Had a couple of good years but so did Woewodin.
Cooney isn't overrated. He is rated, and justifiably so.
You only have to go back a page or two on this thread to see a bulldogs supporter touting Murphy as a star.
Why do you keep bringing up Thomas and Campbell? Hopeing that i'll bite and disagree with you? Have a look at the North Board. Heaps of threads involving the over-rating of especially Thomas. Has been absolute crap this year IMO and is over-rated, especially by the out-going coach. Campbell on the other hand had a terrific first year and hasn't been on the park enough this year to judge form.

Adam Goodes not a ruckman? Did you just start watching Football in 2008? Adam Goodes was rucking for Sydney for years only until recently and when he was rucking, he could EASILY play the rover role better than Cox. Jeff White is an athletic player and he could get himself around the ball a lot, which clearly proves all the bullshit about Cox revolutionizing the ruck+rove role. Likewise with Simon Madden.
Oh and haven't turned on your tele lately? Commentators are already citing Lindsay Thomas and Matt Campbell as the new Krakouer even though both are only AVERAGE. They are nowhere near champions at the stage they're at and I don't think they'll ever be.
