Golf World Golf thread - Foreign and Domestic

It's one of life's great mysteries. Just as mystifying is how much power the playing group seems to be able to exert on the future direction of the PGAT and world golf in general.

These chuckleheads are professional sportsmen, not skilled businessmen.
Jay is a former CEO of Fenway sports and hence he is in tight with this new SSG consortium and they have obviously batted for him to stay as the CEO. The players I don't think have the power that some think.

From all reports, which is admittedly journo scuttlebutt, the big thing holding up a PIF/PGAT deal is a certain player group(call it the Woods/Spieth/Cantlay bloc) that does do not want a more "global" tour.

So it would appear the players have a fair amount of power.

I think they also want to make it hard for the LIV players to be able to play PGA tour events. Still don't get why they are upset, they chose not to take the money. That was their decision, it doesn't give you any more rights now though.
And they don't have to play outside of America, they can choose to play just in America. Up to them isn't it.

Think the bad blood is pretty understandable given what went down with lawsuits, etc. - but LIV did end up making all the players richer.

Note that Rory is the one recommending the pragmatic approach of letting bygones be bygones.

Yes Rory is but it's only because he knows there is no stopping the money and he wants to make sure he gets his share.
Chamblee has changed his tune now also, protecting his job of course.

If Rory wanted dough he would go to LIV. Good imagining though.

Rory gets plenty. Might get some more this week. In good form so he is a strong chance.
Is a major though and he has struggled a bit for a while now.
To good a player to not get a few more though.

I would have thought Louis Oosthuizen was more deserving of an invite given his willingness to play elsewhere and the results he achieved when he did.

Gooch acts like a scorned, petulant child who has been so hard done by.
Fair chance he wasn't expecting an invite :) IMG_20240514_153300.jpg

If those three are in contention on the weekend it will be awesome. Shame it sounds like the course is going to be long but very soft.

Agree, what a championship that would be. Rarely happens though the favourites all play well.

Rory and his partner have filed for divorce.

Reads like it was just Rory doing the filing. Wants his pre-nup enforced. Not sure if that sounds like the start of an amicable split…

So in the midst of the policy board ructions and a marriage split Rory pulled out some serious golf last week. He can compartmentalise.
