Since you are giving history lessons name another Australian tournament with 13 individual major winners.
Really? That's your measure? I'd say the 78 field noted above containing players who were soon to win a major is a much stronger field than the majority of LIV major winners who are well past their best.

Suggesting the LIV field was superior to say the 60s/70s Aus opens which contained Nicklaus, Palmer, Player, Thomson, Nagle is simply nonsense.

Well I don't have a Time Machine to go back to the 1978 Aus Open, so the LIV Adelaide field is easily the best field I can get anywhere near.

The 2011 Oz Open field was very strong as well.

That's a separate question isn't it? Hopefully the Oz Open will regain some of its relevance and the 28 Presidents Cup at KH should be pretty awesome - if the LIV guys can play in it by then.

What field has been the strongest might be up for debate but the people have spoken in Australia and they want to watch top level golf which LIV provides them. And they have latched on to it pretty firmly.

I'd say what is also up for debate is how much of that crowd was wanting to watch "top level golf" or just get on the pi55 at a big event in a town that doesn't see much.

That will be the case at every golf event, they all have corporate venues at them, they don't all have watering holes which does encourage the madness but they do all have VIP tents.

To be clear there are five institutions that are prepared to sponsor golf tournaments in Australia:

  1. Saudi Arabia government
  2. South Australian state government
  3. Victorian state government
  4. NSW state government
  5. QLD state government

And to a lesser extent ISPS Handa.

There is simply not the money available to bring a PGA Tour stop out to Australia. It's a waste of time talking about it.

Things might change. To my uninformed mind, the current bloated prizemoney pools are unsustainable - both at the PGAT and LIV.

Who knows what the professional golf world will look like a few years from now?

In hindsight, we should have gotten on board with the DP World Tour, like South Africa did. Maybe we still will.

Never an asterisk when Michael Block is playing.
You've just reminded me we have to put up with this block party bullshit again.

I can see the headlines already.. "Block party over"

It would be glorious if Gooch won it and having to answer all those questions about the asterisk. It'd be glorious f he missed the cut also.

Well played PGA.

Doesn't seem to have a filter Taylor. Sometimes you just have to shut up and let your game do the talking. He can play but he has now put added pressure on himself that he never needed to do.
Hope he does well but he has surely set himself up to fail also.

I would contest the idea that Talor can play. His PGAT career was fair to middling. One win at the RSM and never made top 10 at a major. A little weak that he won’t go to US Open qualifiers unlike other LIV players.

He also appears to be extremely stupid. He effectively joined LIV by accident after teeing it up at an event thinking he could go back and play on the PGA Tpur.

Fair points, but he is only early 30's so reasonably young in golf terms. But he better get on with it if he wants to make a name for himself.
Agree its stupid to not try and qualify for US Open. Guess he is now hoping for a top 10 finish at the PGA, highly unlikely though based on his history.
When I say he can play I was not saying he is the best player in the world, but he is easily a top 100 player in the world and that means you can play in my world. In fact any pro golfer can play.
