The Trea Turner grand slam ends up putting Team USA on top for good, as Venezuela can't recover in the bottom of the ninth. Team USA will progress to face Cuba in the semi-finals of the WBC, while Japan v Mexico is the other semi-final.

Cuba and USA are facing off in the first semi-final. Cuba loaded the bases in the top of the first against Adam Wainwright, but could only get one run across. Mookie Betts doubled to open the bottom of the first, with Trout, Goldschmidt and Arenado behind him.
 
USA now out to a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third, after Trea Turner homered to left field in the bottom of the second and Alonso hit a single that drove in Arenado (and kept the bases loaded).

Now it's 5-1 after Tim Anderson hit a sac fly and Schwarber scored.
 
USA are through to the World Baseball Classic final after trouncing Cuba 14-2. Goldschmidt had four RBI and scored two runs himself. Trea Turner hit two home runs as part of a three-for-five game, while Nolan Arenado had a triple, an RBI and two runs (as well as a HBP). Mookie Betts had three hits from six at-bats, and scored two runs himself.
 
Trea Turner is the first US player since Ken Griffey Jr to hit multiple homeruns in the one WBC game with homeruns in the second and sixth innings. Turner has a chance to equal the WBC record of five homeruns set by Korea's Seung Yuop Lee back in 2006 for most homeruns in a tournament. Turner has the US record, and is tied with Wladimir Balenien (NED) and Adrian Beltre (DOM) for second most overall homeruns in a single WBC.

Reportedly Moncada and Arenado left the game due to injuries. Arenado was hit ine hand by a pitch, and Moncada collided with teammate Roel Santos in an attempt to catch a fly ball from Kyle Schwarber in the bottom of the sixth.

Thank you. I quickly saw it as I was watching something else and then they went to a commercial, when they came back the game had restarted. This was the Moncada/Santos collision



It doesn’t even look like a big collision but you just never know sometimes.

Yamamoto is the Japanese pitcher that tore Australia to ribbons in our pool game against Japan. Almost certainly will head to the MLB in the next couple of years. Been the best pitcher in Japan for the last couple of years.
 
Arozarena hits a stand-up double in the top of the eighth with one out for Mexico. He's in scoring position with the heart of the Mexican line up due up. Verdugo hits the first pitch he sees from Yamamoto for a double to centre to score Arozarena and Mexico are back in front 4-3.
 
Isaac Paredes sneaks one through the right side of the infield and Mexico score another run to make it 5-3. The potential sixth run was tagged out at the plate to end the top of the eighth inning. Japan with a bit of work to do.
 
New Mexican pitcher Jesus Cruz relieves JoJo Romero and proceeds to hit Kazuma Okamoto with his first pitch. Japan with one on and no outs in the bottom of the eighth, needing two runs to send it to extras and three to win.
