An NTFL result a few years ago read:

Burnie 50.29 (329)
Smithton 1.1 (7)

I went to a Northern Bombers match in the same season, we were walking out as the final siren sounded... a Smithton player marked just before and goaled just after the siren

N.Bombers 31.13 (197)
Smithton 1.8 (14)

Newcomb Football Club in the Bellarine Football League have had a shocking start to the season.

Round 4 - Modewarre 26.23.179 d. Newcomb 4.4.28

After 5 rounds, they have a for/against ratio of 126 points for, 1292 against, for a percentage of 9.75%.

Their reserves side hasn't fared much better.

Is that the one where one player kicked 40 goals?

Round 19 1994: St Kilda vs Brisbane Bears at Waverley Park - In wet and gloomy conditions, St Kilda kept the Bears to 1 goal in 115 minutes of play; but a 5 minute lapse in the third quarter allowed Brisbane to kick 7 goals and it was enough for the Bears to win 8.7-55 to 5.15-45.

Wow, 7 goals in 5 minutes. That's a fair effort.

I went to a Pies v Saints game in 1988 with absolutely awful weather. The pies won 7 goals to 3.

5 games were played that afternoon, and a total of 60 goals were kcked between the ten teams

1960 TFL Grand Final at North Hobart:

3QT scores - Hobart 6.7 (43) v North Hobart 6.3 (39)
Full-time - Hobart 6.7 (43) def North Hobart 6.3 (39)

Neither team scored in the final quarter. It was so wet the game drew the smallest ever crowd for a TFL grand final - just 6,001 very hardy souls.

1948 TFL Round 13 at Bellerive:

Clarence 4.16 4.16 7.22 7.22.64
North Hobart 0.0 3.8 3.8 5.19.49

Neither team scored at one end all day. Bellerive was a pretty windy place before the southern stand was built. It must have been a windy day in Hobart as on the same day, New Town failed to score to one end in either the first or third quarters and their opponents Hobart kicked a solitary goal in each of the second and fourth quarters in their match at New Town Oval. In total 7.25 to one end, 2.0 to the other. In the third game of the round that day, 2.6 was kicked to one end of North Hobart Oval whilst 10.10 was kicked at the other. Thus across the three matches 29.76 was kicked with the wind, 4.6 against.

I don't remember what year but there was a game in Perth where the Bulldogs kicked 8 goals to nil against the Eagles in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Eagles then went on to kick 8 goals to nil. I don't remember the result but the was a decent melee at half time. I'm sure someone will remember this game.

I remember watching that game as a little 8 year old avid Eagles supporter. I fell asleep after quarter time with West Coast down by 48 points & was so devastated thinking about it when i woke up i was going to switch teams to the bulldogs haha:p Little did I know we had an 8 goal to nil quarter of our own & won the match!

Round 10 1998. WACA Fiday night. Bulldogs were top of the ladder - the Eagles 9th

WC 0.4-4 8-6-54 13-12-90 16-17-113

25th april 2009- Tottenham Hotspur vs manure
spurs got out to a 2-0 and were the much better team at half time. the 2nd half was a completly different story, after the ref gave a s**t decision that allowed man u back in to the game they somehow won 5-2:(:(

it was a wierd 'football' game

i remember that game to, they were unstopable

In 1956, North Melbourne failed to score a goal in 5 of the 8 quarters they played against Geelong.

Round 2

Geelong 2.1 6.7 9.9 16.14.110
North 2.4 2.4 2.9 2.10.22

Round 13

North 3.2 7.3 7.4 7.5.47
Geelong 2.2 6.8 10.13 19.15.129

Very similar to a game played at White Hart Lane in the early 2000s
(01/02 i think)

Tottenham up 3-0 half time against Man Utd. Man Utd came back to win it 5-3, which I think it the best ever comeback at half time for the EPL.

Hawks v Bombers 1992, Round 20 (I think).

Lots of multiples of 8... (12 is one and a half 8s)

Hawks kicked 8 goals in each quarter.

Bombers kicked 8 goals total.

Dunstall kicked 12 goals and got 1 brownlow vote.

Record winning margin at the MCG. 160 points.

32.24-216 to 8.8-56

Last night's game was interesting score wise:

In the first quarter, Geelong kicked 6.4 to the Bulldog's 3.2. In the last quarter, the Bulldogs kicked 6.4 to Geelong's 3.2.

In the second quarter, Geelong kicked 3.6 to the Bulldog's 5.1. In the third quarter, the Bulldogs kicked 3.5 to Geelong's 5.2.

In the first half, Geelong scored 9.10 to 8.3. In the second half, the Bulldogs scored 9.9 to 8.4.

There were also a combined 15 scoring shots in every quarter.

I don't know the specifics, but there was a game, probably around 2004-2006 some time where Brisbane led the entire match against Sydney, from the first scoring shot to the final siren but lost the game. Barry Hall won a free kick/took a mark with a few seconds remaining and goaled after the siren.

Sydney won the game despite never leading during the course of the game.

I think this was the game between the teams in Round 3 2005.

As of round 10, the cats have not 'won' the wooden spoon in 1123 matches. The digits form a fibonacci sequence. Dan Brown has taught us that there must be some meaning in here. Could it just be coincidence???

I think not.

Yep that sounds right.

I remember watching it, we had a 5+ goal lead at 3 quarter time from memory and the Swans, as they always did against us, came back to level it when the final siren went.

Barry Hall kicked a goal and put the Swans in front for the first time AFTER the final siren.

The strangest one I ever saw was an SANFL night competition (think it was called the Escort Cup back then??) between Sturt and Glenelg back in the 80s.

Glenelg were goalless to 3 quarter time, but came back with 10 goals in the last quarter (and IIRC they were not full length quarters) to snatch the game.

Glenelg weren't goalless at 3/4 time, but kicked 10-3 to 0-3 in the last qtr to win by a point - Tony Hall (of the soon-to-be-Hawthorn-variety) kicked the sealer.

I also vaguely recall a SANFL game from the early 80's where Woodville led by 33(?) points going into time-on in the last qtr, whereby West Adelaide kicked SIX goals in time-on to win by a few points.

cant believe no one has mentioned this one yet.....
2006 qualifying final:
west coast 12-12-84
sydney 13-7-85

2006 Grand final
west coast 12-13-85
sydney 12-12-84

There's also the identical 4 point margins in the 2005 qualifying final and grand final games as well which were reversed in the swans favour of course.

While we're talking about SANFL games, earlier in this year on ANZAC day North player Sturt

North Adelaide kicked the first 6 goals of the game. Sturt kicked the last 6 goals of the game in a 7.9 vs 7.6 game (Norths win after 7 behinds in the last qtr)

If I remember correctly, there was a game between Essendon and Sydney in the season of 2001 which was similar except it was Sydney who led the whole match. The Bombers kicked the goal after the siren (or very close to it) to win the match.

Essendon1.32.8 5.11 11.13 (79)Sydney2.57.6 9.8 11.11 (77)

The most lopsided match that I've been to, when it comes to an individual forward's scoring performance, was early 2000s at the MCG: Melbourne v Collingwood at a time when Melbourne were mediocrities and Collingwood were just woeful. Melbourne were probably always destined to win the game just by being less bad. The always-unpredictable Jeff Farmer had done a big fat nothing in the first half, to the point where he even spent part of it on the pine.

Then in the 2nd half he just came out and put on a clinic. Kicked 9 goals in one of the most dazzling individual halves of footy you will ever see. Wouldn't have mattered if they put 5 blokes on him. Had a very gettable shot for 10 in the dying moments of the match, too.

we played in the grand final that year

If that happened to us I'd neck myself. Still not over Essendon coming back from 46 points down in the last quarter to beat us in the early 90's without something like that.

Though I'm sure now after a couple of goals it would be chip-o-rama to stem the tide.

Geez, that's amazing. However, at the time of the first bounce, you were very narrowly in the 8 by percentage, and until the Wiz went mental, played like a team that would've been lucky to make the 8.

What I'd forgotten was that it seems like this game kickstarted Melbourne's season. 6-7 before the game, and only lost 2 more games (including the GF thumping) after it.
