This is BRILLIANT!!!

Congrats girls and all the staff for this wonderful effort. It's sad the AFLW and VFLW don't get the promotion and recognition it deserves.

Collingwood’s VFL Women’s side has secured the minor premiership after recording a 39-point victory over the Casey Demons in its last match of the home and away season on Saturday.

Senior coach Penny Cula-Reid told Collingwood Media she is thrilled with both the progress and success of her team during the season so far.

“It feels awesome to finish the home and away season on top,” she said after the match.

“These girls have worked extremely hard since last September to get to where they are now and it’s nice to think we’ve found a way to get here altogether.”

It wasn’t all easy for the Magpies against the Demons, for they struggled with another slow start and were unable to capitalise on the many opportunities presented.

“It will be a key focus of ours to make sure we start each match strong heading into finals,” Cula-Reid continued.

“It comes down to identifying our issues early and making changes when necessary in order to put the score on the board.”

The Magpies relied on forward Jamiee Lambert, who kicked three goals, as well as Stacey Livingston and Ruby Schleicher, who each kicked two.

While the Demons presented a strong defensive front in the first half, the Magpies managed to turn the tables after the main break, limiting them to a scoreless final quarter.

The Magpies will now prepare for the First Semi-Final against the second placed Hawthorn on Saturday 8 September.

Cula-Reid is confident with her team will be ready for the challenge thrown down by the Hawks, who the Magpies beat by seven points in their only meeting back in round five.

“We are ready for whatever comes at us.”

Do we know what the finals format is? Is it final 4 / 5 / 8?
It's in the SF thread, but from memory it's a top 4 where
  • week 1 is 1v2, 3v4
  • week 2 is loser 1v2 v winner 3v4
  • GF (week 3) is winner 1v2 v winner week 2
