The Top End Taipans come to face the Cairns Bluedogs coached by fumbler in Round 1 of the BFFL. This marks the first ever game for the Taipans and also marks the debut of coach, Smartys Power in the BFFL. And boy did the Taipans deliver.
The Top End Taipans went on to win the match in a dominant display winning 6-3. The Taipans won on the scoreboard (19.9-123), % (0.679), Kicks (190), Handballs (148), Frees For (23) and Frees Against (17). While the Bluedogs could only manage Marks (83), Hitouts (64) and Tackles (60).

V Victorian Stars.png
Round 2 of the BFFL saw the Top End Taipans host mClarke329 's Victorian Stars in a grueling battle. It was a back and forth match that really could have gone either way. This was truly one for the ages. During the week the Taipans lost an excellent player in Rory Sloane in need of rookies which they got in Mark Blicavs and Jonathan O'Rourke from @Rockford's Western Roughnecks in the last 30 seconds of the trade period.

However the match feel in favour to the Stars beating a gallant Taipans outfit 5-4 to hand the Taipans their first loss of the season. The Taipans dominated on the scoreboard kicking 21.9-135 to the Stars's 15.8-98. But the Stars overran the Taipans in the other areas. The Stars won Handballs (143), Marks (68), Hitouts (44), Tackles (62) and Free Against (24). The Taipans won on the scoreboard, % (0.700), Kicks (198) and Frees For (24).

Smartys Power and mClarke329 put on a classic and have set the tone for the 2013 BFFL Season.

Round 3
Eastern Hurruicanes.png V Top End Taipans 1.png
The Top End Taipans faced the Eastern Hurricanes coached by bombers007 for their Round 3 encounter. This bout was set to be a classic as the Eastern Hurricanes have won both of their matches in 2013 while the Taipans only loss was in a nail-biter in last weeks game against the Victorian Stars that could have gone either way.

The stats told us this battle would be a close one, but the final scoreline told a different story. The Taipans picking up an easy 7-2 win. The dominating happened right across the board in all but 2 areas. The score of 19.9-123 against the Hurricanes 7.11-53 was one of those areas as well as % (0.679), Handballs (139), Marks (78), Tackles (61), Frees For (26) and Frees Against (16). It wasn't the best day for the Eastern Hurricanes but they did win Kicks (206) but by the barest of margins with 1 extra than the Taipans but the Hurricanes dominated the Hitouts 78-17.

The Top End Taipans dominate display sees them jump into 2nd spot on the ladder with their season well and truly under way.

Disappointing End to a Stellar Season

After a dominant home and away season that resulted in the Taipans to finish top of the ladder in their inaugural season. Adding their first piece of silverware, The Almost Shield. However the Taipans would crack under the pressure during the finals going out in straight sets. Not only were the Taipans kicked out of the premiership race in straight sets, they also lost their fifth place play-off. Resulting in the club going 0-3 in the finals series and eventually finishing 6th. Currently the biggest choke in the history of the BFFL.

On a more brighter note, check out the Top End Taipans first piece of silverware...
