Theme Song

The only known theme song I know of is just the tigers theme song but instead of Tigerland, it’s Tasmania.
This of course won’t work in the AFL.

I was hoping that our theme song would be based off an old nursery/sea shanty like the classic theme songs. E.g.
The teddy bears picnic tune

If we come up dry we could always go with the Devil Inside.

To Eurythmics Sweat Dreams.

Sweet dreams are made of this,
Who are we to disagree,
We travel the country's seven places, (Vic, WA, SA, ACT, NSW, Qld, NT. ;))
Everyones flocking to see our team.

(Shout) TASSIE, Some of them want to abuse you.
Some of them will be bruised by you,
(Shout) TASSIE, Some of them want to abuse you,
Some of them will be bruised by you.

Hold your head up, keep your head up, Movin on (Shout) TASSIE
4 times through.

Thanks to Annie Lennox.:p

I'm a musician and teacher, and I'm working on this...!

My inspiration is a cross between Danny Boy and You'll Never Walk Alone. "Tasmania, we're home", something like that. I'd imagine anyone who does this would need something that can be turned into a Fables style tune, but I do like the ownership that Liverpool and Port fans alike have for a song of this type. I also saw the New Orleans Saints do their song years ago, a slower gospel number...the majority of the team being African-American and with a better music education than Aussies get, it was amazing...!

The other thing to consider is the singability for footy players, who can turn any inspired tune into s**t...I had no idea how the West Coast song actually went until I heard it only in the last decade, because it's f###ing terrible and their vocal abilities are f###ing terrible, but the Cat Empire totally nailed it when they wrote the GWS song...clever musicians...you've got to imagine what footy players will do with it, a big shouty singalong, which is why - whether you like the actual song or not - GWS, Richmond and Port are pretty good after a big win...

I've been trying to get in contact with The Cat Empire for some inside goss, but they go through a subscription management service, so we'll see...

How about 'We're forever blowing bubbles' The West Ham punk version might suit!! Hahahaha!!

Ok...if you're musically literate, it's off to the piano and belt out this number in the style of the Fable Singers or Bob Marley or whoever the hell you want...I was actually channelling "You'll Never Walk Alone", but was always conscious that it needed the more traditional footy song style too...

If you're not a muso, open up the mp3 and sing along with the tune:

"We were there from the start, it was born in our hearts
And our dest-in-y re-mains true,
We're Tas-man-i-a, the great-est foot-ball state by far, the main-land we're com-ing for you,
We're Tas-man-ia-a, the Dev-ils we are, Tas-man-i-a, we're home,
Tas-man-i-a, we're home."

Tell me if I'm on a winner. Apparently, the guy from a Tasmanian band wrote the song to the Jackjumpers, and reckons he can pull a footy song out of his arse...

What song did our last vfl team use ? Was it a different version of north Melbournes song vaguely remember something like that

To the the Richmond Tigers Tune

It goes sort of like this.

Oh we're from TasmainYA, a fighting fury, we're from TasmainYA

In any weather you will see us with a grin, risking head & chin,

Oh we're from TasmainYA We'll fight & fight to win & we'll never never give in

Like the Tassie of old, we're strong & we're bold.

We'll play till we win, we'll never give in.

Oh we're from TasmainYA,

TASSIE IS BACK.

oH!, We're from TaSSS main YAHHH!!!!

I'm sure the full & proper song is somewhere on the interwebby thing. ;)

An approprite set of lyrics to the tune of 'Waltzing Matilda' would be dinky di true blue.

Now I know this is a bit naff but you'll get the drift.

Once a proud football state needed a club,

So the Tassie Devils came to be,

And they fought and they won

Brought glory to their island home

Tassie Devils never quit, you’ll see.

Glory to the Devils, glory to the Devils

Glory to the Devils, just wait and see

And they fought and they won

Brought glory to their island home

Tassie Devils never quit, you'll see.

(now you know why I lift boxes for a living.) ;)

But honestly it's about time we had a true Aussie bush ballad blasted out after a game.

Good effort, well done!

Definitely riffing on something familiar is the way to go imo. But Waltzing Matilda, idk, it'd be better suited to St Kilda (except they already have a great one).

If they're going to be referred to as the Tassie Devils in song, I can't help but think of "The Midnight Special" a la Lead Belly, Creedence Clearwater Revival, et al. Pretty sure that's in the public domain. And it goes a little something like this...

We're the Tassie Devils (the Tassie Devils)
Apple Isle team (Apple Isle team)
Yeah the Tassie Devils (the Tassie Devils)
And we're hard to beat (and we're hard to beat)

Wear the Tassie Devils' (the Tassie Devils')
Red, yellow and green (red, yellow and green)
We're the Tassie Devils (the Tassie Devils)
And we're gonna win the flag. you'll. seeeeee.

Hard pass

Any body heard the Tas Uni song? Think we should go with that.
123 the Tassie boys are we etc etc.

Wow that is awful. Its like someone run out of ideas for lyrics half way through, so they just repeated the same line over and over.
It's basically the same as Glory Glory to South Sydney in the NRL.

Except their version have about 16 verses about how South Sydney are the best thing since sliced bread.

I'm not sure, i'd hope it goes like this....

What do we say when we run out to play,
We're Tasmania!
What do we say when we run out to play,
We're Tasmania!
We're tough (we're tough)
We're mean (we're mean)
We're strong (we're strong)
We're a team (we're a team)
We're the greatest team you've ever seen ...
We're Tasmania!
We're the greatest team you've ever seen ...
We're Tasmania!
From the North to the South
All will join us shout,
We're Tasmania,
When we're holding up the cup you'll hear us cry,
We're Tasmania!

Dare to beat the Bear.

We are the boys from Tasmania
We play beside the sea
All for one and one for all
We strive for victory
There’s not a game that we can't win
Together we stand tall
The siren sounds we stand our ground
We’re Devils one and all

Stand and deliver
We’ll fight and not give in
We want it bad so every lad
Will push until we win

Devils show the courage
We rally to the call
We are the boys from Tasmania
In Green and Red and Gold.
