Apparently Benny Mac "sobbed when he was drafted by West Coast with its second pick, at No.29 overall, in the 2005 AFL National Draft because he wanted to stay in Victoria." (says http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,23789895-5005401,00.html)
I sure as hell hope he re-signs with us!
Apparently he's come around though. Seems to like it and allegedly signed that 1 year deal last year on the basis he will get some game time. He seems to be doing that, so you would think it is much more likely he will sign rather than will not. The advantage we do have is that there is a lot of young blokes at the club and most of the older blokes are very nice, so he has a bunch of mates there now.

I forgot to say that I am pretty sure Kennedy signed a 3 year deal when he came over. IIRC, they showed some faith in him right off the bat and gave him a longer contract. No doubt this would have been to make him feel more comfortable about the move. This is all on a vague recollection though, so it may be wrong.

WEST Coast players say they are embarrassed and humiliated by their record 100-point loss to Collingwood.
Yesterday’s loss at the MCG was the Eagles worst-ever result against the Magpies and consigned them to a 2-8 win-loss record for 2008.
The Eagles were blown away in the second half of yesterday’s game and were outscored 15 goals to three after half-time.

Young Eagles forward Ben McKinley said the West Coast playing group would have a meeting with coach John Worsfold to discuss the team's future.
“I think tomorrow, just because it was such an exceptional loss, he just wants to know that everyone is being honest about their own performance and I think he’ll try and assess that from what we go and say to him,” McKinley said.

“It’s not easy going and telling anyone, or being told by anyone that we don’t think you’re up to it in this area. But look that’s part of being an AFL footballer, you’ve got to take criticism.

“The only way you can go forward is to take criticism like that. You can’t shy away from it. You’re only going to be better for the experience.

“They’re not trying to belittle you or degrade you as a player, they’re just trying to make you better and I think that’s what we need around this football club and if we can do that, we’ll go forward.”

McKinley said he and his Eagles teammates did not really have an explanation for their capitulation other than to suggest that things could only get better for the side.

“We know basically what we did wrong and we’ll go through our review tomorrow, but we know individually (and) as a team what went wrong.

“It was just our impact was down and we didn’t do the things that we did last week that made us so good.

“I think there’s positives to come out of it and we’ll learn from that and hopefully be better next week.

“Unfortunately, this year we’ve had a couple of losses over ten goals but I think as young players we’ve got to learn from that and we’ve got to take out of it all the positives.

"It can’t be free-flowing and great football all the time, so we’ve got to really learn and adapt to that and take it into the rest of our careers hopefully so it doesn’t happen to many more times.”

Despite the horror first start to the season losses McKinley said the playing group remained confident it could finish off the year successfully despite their horror first half of the season.

“We’re pretty confident what can happen in the second half of the year,” he said.

“Last week, we were really good and if we can maintain that and do what we did last week, I think we’ll be really good in the second half of the year.

“I think we’re getting there slowly but surely. Yesterday was a bit of a step back, but I think in the second half of the year we can be a really good side.”

The Eagles tried to keep their spirits up at this morning’s recovery session despite the humiliating loss.

Star midfielder Daniel Kerr was restricted to walking laps after re-injuring his left ankle in the second half and appeared to be limping slightly as he entered the changerooms.

Ruckman Dean Cox, one of the Eagles’ best in yesterday’s game, was nowhere to be seen and it is unclear if he is still suffering pain as a result of a broken bone in his foot from earlier this year.

Senior Eagles David Wirrpanda, Michael Braun and Brett Jones as well as captain Darren Glass were also restricted to walking laps.

McKinley, who is out of contract at the end of the season and is reportedly being targeted by Victorian clubs, said he would like to remain with the club.

“There are rumours floating around but you try not to pay too much attention to that,” he said.

“I’m contracted to this year at the Eagles and I’m loving being here.”

McKinley is yet to be offered a new contract for 2009 and beyond, but he would only look to return to his home-state of Victoria if a new deal falls through.

“If the Eagles don’t offer me a contract, then I don’t have any other option but I just want to play AFL footy,” he said.

“Obviously, the Eagles gave me a chance and if I can stay here that would be great but if they don’t offer me a contract then I’ll have to look elsewhere.”

McKinley has been one of the Eagles success stories this season, kicking 19 goals in eight games.

“It’s not just about goals for me its about goal assists and trying to help the team,” McKinley said.

“I’ve worked really hard the last couple of years to get a spot in the team and now that I’ve got it, I don’t want to let it go.

“As much as yesterday was a 100-point loss and we didn’t do that well, it was a great experience for me (to play at the MCG).”

McKinley also said he had no explanation for his blunder in front of goal in the last quarter where he attempted to soccer a ball through but slipped and painfully watched it roll through for a point.

“It pretty much summed up the day basically,” he said.

“I’m going to get out at training and roll a couple of balls out and see what I can do.”

Seems to have a good attitude

re mckinleys comments: THANK F***ing CHRIST! I was worried as he is a vic, his girlfirend is a vic and we only offered him a 1 year deal. Best news ive heard all day. Really sounds like a leader of the young brigade or "new breed".

I'm 99% sure Kennedy signed a 3 year deal when we traded for him.
He signed a 2 yr contract extension with Carlton last year in june ending 2009.:thumbsu:
Once he was Traded to WCE we took over the Contract. :)
Dont Know if they Gave a 1 yr Ext but I would doupt it, More likely to give a new contract at the end of this year.

As he was only on a New 2 year contract I dont see us giving a 3 yr contract to an untried CHF after a trade. IMO

I'm 99% sure Kennedy signed a 3 year deal when we traded for him.

I think I heard something like that one the news but I'm only going to update the contracts when I see some solid evidence otherwise the contracts thread will go downhill fast.

It would be great if someone could find an article about Kennedy's contract.
