There was a point where Brad Hill was taking a shot on goal from 40 metres out, umpire stopped play because Aliir was injured. Ball up, Aliir participated in the next play, ball flew straight down to Ports end for a goal

A 12 point play

The level of umpire influence on the result of games has reached unprecedented levels

Expect to see coaches exploit this 50 / 50 ball up rule more and more

Is the team in a bad position? Then stay down for 30 seconds instead of 10 and we can get a 50 / 50 ball up

that wasn’t the worst one there. It’s not like anything will change.

Port did well despite injuries and just had too many skilled and mature players.

It’s Sports Entertainment, surely you know that by now.
If you want to watch Real sport look elsewhere.
You know the umpires are paid actors right?!!

I watched the game and don't think that happened. I think you've made up a fantasy scenario.

Also, loads of St Kilda fans pitch invaded after Fraser Gehrig kicked his 100th.

I don't think this is a thing. I don't even remember it in the game.

The AFL goes on and on about protecting the head, suspending players quite liberally on the off chance that it could cause concussion. When you've got a player lying there who's head has just been slammed into the turf it's probably right to stop the play to make sure the play doesn't end up on top of them. I don't really have an issue with them doing it.

That being said there probably needs to be clarification on it, ie is there a certain distance from the player that part needs to be halted, who gets possession of it, etc.

When Tom Stewart king-hit Prestia, the umpires let the game go on nearly over his head for the cats to score a goal.

The umpires compounded the disgrace of Stewart’s act.

Game needs to be stopped, but have to watch for exploitation…pretty low thing to exploit

"Bah Gawd, that sounds like Razor Ray's music"

The OP seems a bit confused- the umpire paid a free kick for a dangerous tackle. The game being stopped had nothing to do with Aliir being injured per se. And Hill wasn't really kicking for goal.

But, the free kick count was 25-10. Port got multiple goals from soft or 50/50 calls- one to Charlie Dixon where Dougal Howard was allegedly holding, another where the player marked on the boundary and it was very close.

There was at least one play where I assumed the free would go to St Kilda but they gave it to Port.

To be clear, most of those 25 frees were there. But, Port got a lot of 50/50 ones, including a couple that resulted in goals. With a 10 point margin that's significant.

Frustrating for St Kilda. Crowd impacts the umpiring in all sports. That's the disadvantage of being the away team when there's 40,000 raucous Port fans and 500 Saints.
