After watching RAW just now, 55 minutes of Cody Rhodes, HHH and The Rock on RAW - FFS get the show moving.

Watching Raw without watching Cody’s rise is the AFL equivalent of tuning into the season for the first time to watch Hamish hand the Premiership Cup to the winning team.

To understand Cody’s rise you need to appreciate his fall. The fact as you said he was a “B player”. It’s because he was treated as one for a long time by Vince McMahon and the WWE. The entire Stardust run, ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes, not being able to build from the Legacy era. He reached rock bottom in the WWE after they kept him as Stardust, even after his father’s death and refusing to allow Cody & Dustin to have a Mania match, leaving in 2016 after being considered a ‘WWE lifer’.

Cody’s rise started when he took his opportunity to go independently. He created the ‘American Nightmare’ character, built the lore of the character with this Downstait song and was THE biggest heel in NJPW, ROH and the independents for three years.

I saw Cody at Festival Hall six years ago in a NJPW show with only a few thousands people. Cody literally took this character that is himself turned up to 11 from the ‘Bingo halls’ to the biggest shows in Japan, to being the first major babyface of a new wrestling company in AEW—- then brought that same character to the WWE and continued to grow it.

Watching Cody continue to overcome the odds, wrestle injured ( Hell in the Cell 2022), return at the Rumble and win— try to take down wrestlings ‘’Royal family’ ( that isn’t the McMahon’s) and lose—- only to spend another year to get another opportunity to “finish the story”, his dream and the dream of his family while taking down Roman Reigns, The Rock and the entire Anoai family.

If you watch enough content in advance the Wrestlemania 40 main event has dozens of callbacks and references that make it the most satisfying main event to watch in decades. But it relies on that knowledge — no different than Avengers Endgame only being an excellent movie if you know the build up of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

I hope they move him away from the Bloodline saga for a while until Rock is ready for his match later this year (hoping it is at Summerslam or ‘Mania 41 instead of in Saudi).

The obvious next challengers for Cody are either injured ( Punk, Rollins) or babyface. Would love to see Randy Orton turn on Cody and be the next challenger. Naturally builds on Cody’s character and backstory but gives us something fresh.

When does Gunther’s travel restrictions end? I know he wasn’t able to leave the US for a while to satisfy visa requirements.

I think once that is up they’ll start pushing Gunther up the card in preparation for the Berlin show
