I am not sure just where to post this, that is if the admin will post it.

What a sad week or so it has been for Australian sport.
First the passing of legendary middle distance runner John Landy.
One of the best ever mile or 1500 metre runners. Led all the way except at the finish, in a race where the English man Roger Bannister became the first man to break the four minute mile barrier.
Landy finished second. Not long after Landy himself broke the same barrier.
Then the sad passing of Australia's greatest wicket keeper , Rod Marsh.
Came into the Australian test side as a raw, over weight looking keeper. Only minute into a game, shirt hanging out of his waist band. Told early on by an umpire to tidy up. Went to a tailor and had extra length added tot he tail of his shirts.
Early on earned the nick name of Iron Gloves. This came about because he dropped a few. But he was at that time the only one able and agile enough to get to them. His coverage was amazing.
A legend of not just Australian cricket, but cricket world wide.
Then we lost cyclist, Dean Woods. At the age of 18 Woods won a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics in the team pursuit. He went on to win three other medal after that. Also a three times world champion.
Taken far too early from Cancer.
Now the news last night of the legendary spin bowler Shane Warne. Tragically take by heart attack, as was Rod Marsh.
what can be said of Warne that hasn't been said thousands of times over by cricket commentators all over the world.
Call him what you like, a rat bag, a rascal. a larrikin, I think he would be proud to have been called all those things. But most of all , he was without doubt the greatest spin bowler of all time. He should be the leading wicket taker of all time, and we all know why.
There is much that can be written about all four, but it would be a task far too challenging for a simple fan of all four.
The sporting world is grieving for these legends of their chosen sport. They will be missed.
Australian sport is grieving for the losses, but we will remember them for the feats at their chosen sport.
May they all rest in peace.

Some terribly sad passings of some greats of Australian sport.

Must correct you on the details of Bannister's first sub 4 minute mile race. Landy did not compete in that race on 6th May 1954 at Oxford. He did become the second to break the barrier in a race at Turku, Finland in the following month, breaking Bannister's record.

You might be thinking of the 1954 Empire Games 1 mile final in Vancouver where Landy was passed by Bannister coming off the final turn, when Landy looked back over his left shoulder, only for Bannister to pass him on his right while his head was turned.
