Now that the Olympics is done and dusted it's time for the Paralympics to take centre stage in Rio, with the Opening Ceremony taking place on 7 September.

The IPC has been red hot on the illicit drug issue in the lead up to the games, with Russia thrown out of the Paralympics (a decision upheld by CAS). 175 Russian athletes then requested to participate as a neutral, which was knocked back by the IPC.

Meanwhile the first of the athletes have began to arrive in Rio.

(Haven't seen a separate Paralympics thread - mods feel free to merge if there's another one out there).

Will the OC and CC be broadcast on 7two or 7mate?

Also a fan of the wheelchair rugby.
Yep Murderball is the best of the team sports to watch and apart from a 3 or 4 track events, my next favourite event to tune into at the Para's.

What level of coverage can we expect from 7two? Live coverage, or merely highlights packages?
They are taking the Channel 4 stuff. Looking at the Yahoo guide they are broadcasting between 5am and 11am so that is live stuff and 8.30pm to 11am so that looks like the package up stuff and then 11pm to 2am so that's live as well.

Seven will create and deliver the most comprehensive, technologically advanced, multi-platform coverage of the Paralympic Games in Rio to all Australians on any communications device. Seven will deliver 14 hours a day of live coverage on broadcast television across the network’s digital broadcast platform.

love the wheelchair races on the track. my fav by far.

in saying that, the para games arent something i watch much of. i like how the commonwealth games has para games with their main games. of course, that will never happen at the Olympics do to the schedule.

it gets confusing with all the K9 categories and the like, especially in the swimming. still, good luck to the aussie teams. bunch of warriors.

7two is the only channel showing coverage of the paralympics doesnt seem fair that they cant give it more than 14 hrs a day coverage on 1 single channel

Looking at the guide they aren't even doing that.

Though I'm probably reading it wrong

Watched a bit of the opening ceremony this morning. I left after the E nations came in. No Equatorial Guinea was a big disappointment. The director like the Olympics used projecting features onto the canvas of the floor. I thought the way they set up the beach scene was brilliant. Surprised they didn't do that sort of beach stuff at the Olympics. I know they used beach video at the start of the Olympics opening ceremony but I thought what they did this was morning was simple but brilliant.

The Oz team uniforms were better than the Olympics. I thought the yellow, green and ochre pants made for a great look.

Don't want to spoil it for people but this is worth sticking in here in case people missed it, its at the start, first 45 seconds, well after the opening video of IPC president Sir Philip Craven getting ready to attend the games from packing his bag in his UK home.

I hope the para athletes Swisse are using in their ads do better than their able bodied Swisse representatives did last month.

Thought the same thing ha!

That 5000m race was awesome! Those guaide runners are pretty awesome. Curious, how do you become one?

Also, the pool side interviewer is just as bad as Nathan. Where do they get these duds from?
