  6. Jack Madgen: Not sure why he hasn't been delisted yet but it might be the same situation as Will Kelly
  7. Tom Wilson: He is apparently going to stay as a category B rookie so can't imagine him leaving.
I'd like to see them get pick 18 for Henry, delist Madgen and Kelly and keep the rest. If Pies can get pick 18, as well as their existing pick 16 and a top 25 pick for Grundy that's not a bad look at the draft for this year to bring in some young talent.

Reported earlier in the year that Bianco hit a trigger (along with Cox), WHE quietly signed an extension last year, Category B rookie rules changed/exemption for 12 months that allowed Tom Wilson to stay on the list for another year. Apparently Kelly also quietly extended (or will be rookies- can’t remember, but his at the Pies next year).

I'd have thought that Howe, Cox, Kelly and Ruscoe are the non-rookies who we are most likely to see leave the club at the end of 2023, for whatever reason...
 
I think it’s too early for Begg. Needs another 2 years IMO. Still young and raw.

Agreed. I think they should be spending those years training him up into a key forward though. There’s virtually no ruckman under 2m tall any more.
 
The one that makes me nervous is Ash Johnson. I haven't heard any indications that he's about to sign a new deal. We don't have a great history of retaining Indigenous talent either. Hoping the Bobby Hill deal keeps him here.

Can’t think of many indigenous players who have left us to go to another club...can you? Robbie Ahmat perhaps?

Leon retired a year too soon and then changed his mind too late as lists were all but closed.

Reckon you’re making up stories there.

As with all talented players we will worry about keeping them until they are signed. Same for Johnson. Same for Henry last year. Same for Degoey last year.

Nothing to do with being aboriginal. It’s all about a good player at a good club taking his time to consider his future

Leon left because he wasn’t happy.

I probably phrased that poorly. We haven’t been a destination club for aboriginal players for historically obvious reasons. Hoping that perception hasn’t stuck around among the indigenous community.

So then basically Varcoe is the only Indigenous player we’ve ever had come and enjoy his time enough at the club enough to finish up at the Pies on his own terms? Really sad that that was the case and good that Fly and some others at the club have changed that environment a lot.
