Meh. Whatever we were getting we were probably blowing on Rioli anyway.Amon draft compensation
Port Adelaide will receive a second-round draft selection as compensation for Karl Amon's free agency move.www.portadelaidefc.com.au
PORT ADELAIDE will receive a second-round draft selection as compensation after Karl Amon’s move to Hawthorn was confirmed.
Amon opted to exercise his rights to change clubs as an unrestricted free agent, signing with the Hawks after nine seasons and 124 games with Port Adelaide.
Under AFL rules, the Power was unable to match the offer for the 27-year-old but it will receive a compensation pick – currently pick 27 – for November’s NAB AFL National Draft.
Port Adelaide currently holds selections 8, 27, 53 and 56 in the national draft, which will take place on November 28 and 29 in Melbourne.

Thanks Wayne.Always the expert. Others have their opinion as well.
Meh. We turned a pick 70-odd into 100+ games and a top 30 pick. Plenty of players who can fill his spot, and professionally handled all around.
Surely we've had just about the least draft leg ups of any side. No priority picks. At our shittest during the GWS and GC establishment drafts. Least concessions of any club introduced to the league in the modern era. Stooged in the FA. We're like the red headed step kid.
Amon is a free agent, there wont be a trade but even if there was why in dog's name would we throw in Georgiades to sweeten the deal?Is the advertiser.com posting a pic of georgiades on one of their trade reports just to piss us off, or?
Check out the trade thread mate! Likely advertiser just has his mug on there as click bait or to reiterate he ain’t leaving.Amon is a free agent, there wont be a trade but even if there was why in dog's name would we throw in Georgiades to sweeten the deal?

This is rightAge does reduce the formula a bit. It's around 10% of it.
The only real explanation is that the $600-$650k per year was calculated in the same manner as St Kilda calculated the Brad Crouch contract - that is, Hawthorn paid a $500k base contract (which is what the AFL uses for compensation purposes) and then paid an extra $110k ($5k per game) for games played.
The media reports it as a "$600-$650k" contract but it never actually was. I kind of wonder if Amon told Port a bit of a porky pie regarding this - remember when Rucci was saying that the deal was $700-$750k a year? I can imagine Port asking what the deal from Hawthorn was (in their consideration of whether they would attempt to match it or not) and Karl saying it was around $600-$650k, then Port asking 'is that including or excluding match payments?' and Amon saying it was excluding them - Port adds on $110k and thinks 'Cool, we'll get an end of first round pick for him then', when the reality was that it was including match payments, so they had to take it away.
At the end of the day, we are talking about a difference of 8-9 draft picks, for a pick we are probably trading out anyway. It's not that big a deal for us.
Buddy was actually rated as the highest band compensation possible. If any club should whinge about the secret herbs and spices its Hawthorn. They received pick 19 as compensation for Buddy Franklin in his prime!
If Buddy in his prime is only worth pick 19 then by comparison we should've received pick 156 for Carl.
If any club should whinge about the secret herbs and spices its Hawthorn. They received pick 19 as compensation for Buddy Franklin in his prime!
If Buddy in his prime is only worth pick 19 then by rights we should've received pick 156 for Carl.
They used pick 19 to get Ben McEvoy and FA to get Frawley for nothing. Their forward line was just as potent as Roughhead, Gunston, Rioli, Puopolo, and Bruest all picking up the slack. FA made Hawthorn a better team, not worse.
Give me a spell.
They won 2 flags without him.
That's the rules... If they finished bottom they would of had 1 and 2. heck them. That isn't the point. He was by far the best player in the AFL, in his prime and they only received pick 19 as compo.
Because they were the best team in the competition at the time. The compensation system has always been, and should always be, set up so that the s**t teams are compensated more when the top teams raid their best talent. That isn't the point. He was by far the best player in the AFL, in his prime and they only received pick 19 as compo.
