Lots of talk on Eagles board about us going after Busslinger, is still OOC end of this year.

What is he worth?

If he doesn't play this year then only a 3rd?
Probably a F2 pick gets it done, maybe third rounder if we threaten PSD, but I dont think we would do that, we didnt do it with Brockman last year. Hes still a high pick KPD who wont be too far off being ready for AFL so would still have value

Chances are he doesn't play many games this year.

So a F2nd is around the mark unless the kid comes out, plays really well, makes best 23 and stays in the side.

However, with the Eagles likely finishing bottom 3 if not last if Busslinger agreed to a trade there is no leverage to force the Eagles to over pay.

What makes you say that it’s not like our Backline is great

Young KP's take time.....years.

Dogs are contending now so throwing a 0 game key defender into the best 22 this season when pushing for a flag........is rare.

It's the father son talls as well that will add pressure on him getting a game now and in the future. The tall forwards at the Dogs are seriously stacked, already talk of one of Croft or Darcy will likely need to be playing defense.

If Doggies let Busslinger go for a F2nd round their list manager should be sacked.

Kid had a shoulder reconstruction in his draft year, it was always expected he would take time to develop.

Bulldogs should be asking for what they paid, a pick in the early teens.
If the kid wanted to leave and go back home I highly doubt we will get a pick back in the teens.

Just mismanaged from the beginning.

Pickup a WA talent and don't lock him in? If he was a flight risk to begin with, why would you grab him while Eagles will likely stay low for 2+ seasons?
The Kid has all year to Re-Sign and you can only back yourself in as a club to keep them.

I think a KPP leaving so soon after their draft keeps a fair bit more value than that. Even if he got no games and with PSD threat, an early 2nd seems pretty fair. If he plays games at all and looks good you'd think he can get even closer to his draft value.

Definitely seems the perfect one for WC to go after

How?

Who saying he's a flight risk?

The issue here for Busslinger and the club is the luck the Dogs have had recently with father sons all being talls. They are stacked with KP players and cant fit all of them in to develop as they are contending now.

The other issue is cap space. Again Dogs are in a great position in that they have so many guns they all deserve good money. But the salary cap then starts coming into play and players wont re-sign early because the dollars arent there and the big guns coming out of contract are more important. Need to sort out whats left to offer the 20 year old developing tall after locking away the key out of contract players.

What magic wand would you use if you were in charge?

Almost impossible to get an early 2nd with the AFL handing out so many compo picks and assistance picks. Last year our second pick 19 shifted to 30.

Then again with all the picks and academy access handed out to teams playing in grand finals recently maybe the AFL will throw the Eagles a bone for having their picks diluted to help out teams playing finals.

If they're so stacked for depth in young tall players, why even take him?

Injured tall, was always going to take time to develop and their thought was "lets see how this goes"? You don't need a magic wand, just some common sense

The father sons being referred to arent backline first players. Darcy is a ruck forward and Croft is a forward who may start back for now.

We literally just took chances on players desperate for cover. O'donnell from a cricket background, Coffield who has had injury history since his first round draft and Liam Jones in his last years.

Buss made sense.

Yeah, I had thought the same about Buss. Filled a need for the Bulldogs.

My point is he's worth more than a 2nd round pick. He was never expected to break into the team straight away, Bulldogs should have given him an extra 2yrs from day 1. Losing him for a 2nd round pick will be poor foresight on the Bulldogs list management perspective

Yes hes worth more than a 2nd rounder, but hes out of contract at the end of the year. If he wants to come home he will be cheaper than market value

He was drafted before the father sons came along.

And they idenfied a future need and used pick 13 on a highly rated tall.

Logical stuff.

So other than pick someone else, what would you have done differently since?

Other than hopeful Eagles supporters talking about it he may just stay.

Moot point.

You should know this. Dawson went to the Crows for what? Pick 17.

He was worth much more than that. But the Crows didnt need to pay more.

Don't even understand why the Dogs picked him up. They don't seem to have no intention of playing him.

Dogs key-back stocks are terrible outside of Jones, and Busslinger isn't even being named an emergency in the practice games. Crazy Bevo obviously has other ideas.

Crazy Bevo at it again.

Busslinger should get out now before the coach starts getting him to train as a ruckman.

Key backs often take a couple of years before they get regular games, they just arent strong enough to match it with the bigger key forwards and get badly beaten
