Investigation-Kardinia park scam

There is no dedicated size for an AFL footbal field. All venues throughpout Australia are different in size as they are all through metropolitan Melbourne. Geelong have played at Kardinia park since 1940, it's been around since the 19th century as a public park, zoo, speedway and for the past 82 years as the home ground for Geelong. It hosts Soccer, Cricket and Rock Concerts and it's 17 metres longer than the SCG! The beauty of Home and Away grounds in Melbourne for 100 years was they were all different. All this talk about Geelong's home ground is absurd. They will get 11 home games when the new grandstand is completed and they can seat 40k and opposition footy fans throughout the land will go into meltdown. It's the perfect H&A venue for a team not based in Melbourne.
Its not about size, shape is the issue, it is not an oval nor a circle more of a half oblong, half oval concoction.

The problem is this, under AFL guidelines it says, "The preferred Senior oval size is 165m x 135m as this provides the greatest flexibility to cater for all standards of play"

Where does Geelong's ground fit this criteria, its not an oval therefore not fit for purpose.

Apparently some of the Lions players have had this issue at various times over the last two weeks.

Maybe we should get them to switch off the lights, you’re right

There is no criteria for any AFL venue in Australia.
SCG155Length136 Width

The SCG is much shorter: Geelong play on a ground that is much longer :
Kardinia Park170 Length115 Width
Docklands Marvel stadium is :
Docklands160 Length129 Width
Adelaide Oval is also narrow:

Adelaide Oval167 Length123 Width
Old suburban grounds were tiny, google map from the air and you can see how small Windy Hill is for example, all venues are different and that continues to this day, if there was any criteria for an AFL venue it was ignored when the AFL built Docklands and approved the Adelaide Oval. The fact is Geelong have played at Kardinia Park for 82 years and i have seen them get thrashed down there, they will soon have 11 home games at the venue seating 40k and that's where the money went. Footy fans can't stand the fact that they have a home ground here in Victoria. The AFL instructed Geelong to bring the boundary line in by half a metre in 2018, due to injuries from LED fencing. The ground came second to advertising! There are no set dimensions for an AFL field. They are typically between 135 and 185 metres long from goal to goal and 110 to 155 metres wide. They all require a minimum of at least 5 metres of space between the boundary line and fence for safety reasons. Differences exist in modern-day AFL, with no two grounds exactly the same. Each ground has its own fingerprint on the game itself, both in Melbourne and interstate. This is a good thing.

The AFL suggested criteria is for an oval, Kardinia Park is not an oval

Then i will write to Gil and put forward a suggestion to have Geelong removed from the competition because of their very good venue creates angst among opposing supporters. ( of course, that will never happen) the argument is absurd.

Interestingly, there have been 43 grounds which have seen a VFL or AFL game being played for points. The most – of course – is the MCG. Having seen 2556 games in 113 years, it is the widest of all the grounds to host an AFL in 2013. However, I found it interesting to note that Waverly Park (formally VFL Park, which hosted Hawthorn and St Kilda games during the 1990’s) is wider by a solitary 1 metre, and also the longest ground by an extra 5 metres (compared to Subiaco at 175m long)

The argument for ground uniformity is a silly one. Whilst others will whine and complain that an extra few metres can give one team or another an unfair advantage, we need to value the uniqueness of each of the grounds and the teams that play there. That is what makes our game special. The fear of travelling to an away team’s fortress is still rich in the competition. And if we lost the originality of each ground, the character behind the stadiums would disappear, and our game would be a singular mundane experience irrelevant of where the game is being played.

Footy fans will lose their collective minds when Geelong get 11 home games in Geelong from 2023 or 2024? Kardina Park fits into the criteria that states "the playing surface is oval in shape, 135m to 185m long and 110m to 155m wide" Geelong is 170m long and 115m wide. The argument is made by those envious of the fact Geelong play on their own ground. Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon had to move to cater for the members they all so proudly boast about.
In the 90s suburban grounds were measured at:

Princes Park (Optus Oval) 165.4m x 149.9m
Victoria Park (McHale Stadium) 175.5m x 141.7m
Windy Hill 164.6m x 139.9m
Western (Whitten) Oval 183.7m x 129.8m
Kardinia Park (Shell/Baytec/Skilled Stadium) 183.7m x 129.8m
Moorabbin 173.7m x 138.9m

Geelong has been forced to reduce its size to cater for greater capacity.
In 1973, after 67 years Hawthorn moved from the "sardine can" that was 140m long and 110m wide for both capacity and ground size reasons.

The new stadium in Geelong will be a great place for football.

This isn't a Big penis v Geelong penis debate, its the shape that is the issue and no amount of extra seats will fix that.
