Bar Sunil Narine, Mitch Starc is still better than any of those bowlers in the KKR bowling lineup. Yes he will get smacked for a 20 + run over from time-to-time but the game of T20 cricket has changed. Conceding even less than 10 runs an over at the backend means your doing not too bad a job.

Helps when there roads and small grounds
Kevin Pietersen was saying about 3/4 into the match yesterday that these hits were huge hits. Sixes good enough to be sixes on grounds like the : MCG, somewhere in London and even another (large Indian ground).......................

Not sure if he was trying to suck up to the English legent but this was in reference to the sixes Bairstow was playing last night. And yes Eden Gardens is a road.

What’s the main factor with these stupid high scores you reckon? The pitches, the bats, the boundaries? The ball even? Batsmen skill?

I reckon it’s predominantly the bat. I know the boundaries are being brought in miles but a lot of these shots are sailing well over the railings on grounds that back in the day would see few.

There seems to be no point picking specialist bowlers at the moment. At least specialist quicks. They’re all going at 20 runs an over. You know things are ill when you have the likes of proven excellent bowlers like Rabada being destroyed. Someone like Stoinis or Russell is just as (in)effective with the ball. Bowler skill is almost completely redundant. It’s made the format a complete and utter mockery of the game being a traditional bat and ball contest. It’s morphing into stick cricket. Unwatchable garbage.

Im going to agree with you here. I reckon its the bats- it seems a topic no one is talking about. Comms throughout tournament have referred to: batsman mentality, ground sizes and flatter wickets.

It honestly does not look as back as it should. Bumrah and Narine are the two stand outs on the list
There was a poll (regular ones during the broadcast), asking 'Is Narine the best IPL player of season 2024'......with bat and ball , he has been exemplary.

Narine though has already stated a few days ago though, he isnt interested in playing for West Indies in T20 world cup thpuh.

This season, Narine would have to be the best player, having added that batting aspect to his game and proving himself at the top of the order means that he has become almost the perfect T20 player. Also in the IPL, with the impact sub, there has been less of a need in the specialist All-Rounders. Having someone that can bowl 4 overs and open the batting means they can get even more depth of the remaining 11 players (as less reliant on Starc as we originally suspected would happen)

But the pitches are highways so you'd hope they'd connect.

It's a combination of the impact sub, small boundaries, flat pitches, fast outfields and big bats. Can't do much about the size of the grounds but there are other ways to fix the imbalance between bat and ball. Slower outfield, more bowler friendly pitches and smaller bats would be a start but nothing will happen unless people in India are dissatisfied with what they're seeing.

The crazed masses with a minimal attention span craving that constant dopamine hit which constant fours and sixes give - it’s not going to change soon unfortunately.
