List Movements

Hornets are delighted to annouce that they have extended the contracts of young stars Brad Crouch and Mark Hutchings. Coach Knobby commented Brad & Mark have been rewarded for strong season finishes, Brad justified his early DP4 in last years draft and has an exciting future ahead of him, whilst Mark was an absolute steal of the draft at pick 79.

Other rookies Tim Broomhead, Sam Colquhoun, Jason Johannisen, Brodie Murdoch and Nathan Wright will be considered for contract upgraded later during the off-season.

Aaron Sandilands & Jake King have been rewarded for their loyalty to the club with veteran contracts for the 2014 season.

In sad news Brett Ebert has had to reitre from AFL football due to injury, Brett only spent 1 year on the Hornets list and was definitely a risk, but his thighs, quads, calfs (his legs) just couldn't get him on the park. Good luck Brett.

Update 4/11 - Stewart Crameri formerly of Wagga Waggahas agreed to terms with Harbour City Hornets during the current off-season, Crameri will be a vital addition to the Hornets forward line.

Unfortunately Mitchell Grigg has decided to pursue oppurtunities at another club, the Hornets would have loved to have kept Mitch, however, management felt a $400k 4 year contract for a 5 game player was over the asking price.

Kade Kolodjashnij (Gold Coast Suns / TAS – Util) has joined the club as its first round draft pick. Pick #10 over all.
KOLODJASHNIJ-Kade.jpg

The Hornets were very excited to secure a top 5 AFL draft pick at pick 10 in the AFL TM draft and they see Kade as a natural replacement for Sam Fisher once Sam has retired.

If only Coach knobby could pronounce his name correctly ! Kolo-jazz-nee

courtesy of Knightmare on the D&T board
Height: 188cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 09/08/1995
Recruited from: Launceston
Style: Robert Murphy
Player comparison:
Range: 3-7
Profile: Kolodjashnij is a high production outside player with some versatility to his game and can play back, wing or forward well. Kolodjashnij is an effective linkup player who reads the play well and has a smart running game. He’s a good user of the footy by hand and foot and can do some damage with his left boot particularly impressive with that class, vision and hurt factor he displays with the penetration he has and ability to kick it to where the guy up the field wants it, he’s just not so comfortable on his right side. He’s also an excellent run and carry player and can at times break the lines. He’s also excellent in the air with his marking ability strong and behind play can read it well and take his share of intercept marks. He has a nice agile sidestep and can create more time and space for himself with ball in hand. At this stage he has a very thin build and can struggle defensively and in 1v1 contests. He almost certainly will always remain an outside type but a high production guy who can do some damage. Tested exceptionally well at the draft combine which has increased his draft stocks.

Kol-jash-knee.

Well at least that's how the Tasmanian recruiters pronounced it (silent OD)

You're welcome.

Draft Pick 30 - Zach Merrett
MERRETT-Zac.jpg

Zach will add to the all important midfield depth over the coming years.

Again thanks to Knightmare ;
Height: 178cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 3/10/1995
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style: Lindsay Gilbee
Player comparison:
Range: 15-35
Profile: Merrett is one of the elite users of the footy in this draft. He’s a guy you want the ball in the hands of because with ball in hand he just does big damage kicking it to where his target wants it and executing every time as that real playmaker who can make others look. Good user by foot on both sides. Has some versatility. He’s a good tackler for an outside player but being that outside player he struggles to win his own footy and instead relies on that ball outside the contest to thrive and influence games. This is the first year Merrett has really focused in on his footy and considering he’s already playing so well there is some upside there.

Draft Pick 47 - Lloyd Perris (NSW/ACT – Mid)
PERRIS-Lloyd.jpg

Lloyd Perris has today been drafted by the Harbour City Hornets Football Club with DP47, coach Knobby was particularly excited to secure Perris "we considered him at 30 but went with Zach Merrett instead, so we held out breath a bit until pick 47" he was quoted. Perris will add to midfield depth with the Hornets in coming years and is able to remain in his home state.

courtesy of Knightmare and Snoop Dog
Height: 179cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 02/01/1995
Recruited from: St George
Style: Kieran Jack
Player comparison:
Range: Rookie
Profile: Another of those classic Sydney midfielders who just fits their drafting profile so perfectly. Perris is one of those high character guys with future leadership potential who just goes about his footy the right way and will almost certainly get the most out of his footballing ability. Perris has elite endurance and is a two real two way runner who can find plenty of the footy but then limit his direct opponents influence on the contest. He’s not a strong body but he has some real hardness over the footy and can win his own ball while also displaying ability on the outside. He’s also a really nice user of the footy both by hand and foot and seems to make the right decisions so Sydney have really got something in young Perris.
Could well be the best player out of NSW since Kieran Jack. Been in the NSW talent pathway for sometime and the Swans are all over him. He is a very good midfielder who shone during the champs against some very good opposition and would probably attract a pick around 30 if he wasn’t zoned. Moves really well and seems to have terrific endurance because he just gets to so many contests and not only impacts them inside but he can hurt you on the spread as well. He just reads the game so well and he uses it so with aplomb.

Draft Pick 57 - Jake Kolodjashnij
KOLODJASHNIJ-Jake.jpg

Harbour City Hornets are delighted to announce the drafting of Jake Kolodjashnij with draft pick 57, Jake is a future KPD and not a lot is expected in his first year but he is united with his brother at the Hornets and both the Kolodjashnij brothers couldn't be more delighted!

Height: 192cm, Weight: 88kg, DOB: 09/08/1995
Recruited from: Launceston
Style: Ryan Shoenmakers
Player comparison:
Range: 20-late
Profile: The brother of Kade, Jake is a completely different player. Jake is a defender with a strong body and the ability to shut down opposition forwards or play as a rebounder as required. What I like with Jake is his versatility and ability to play a number of roles either as a key defender or even as more of a rebounder off a back flank or even up the field. He’s relatively athletic at his size and not a bad user of the footy. But in saying that I’m not yet sold on him in any one role. Probably more of the third tall at the next level if he finds a role.

Pre-Season Draft Pick 3 - Sean Dempster

DEMPSTER%20Sean.png

Harbour City Hornets are delighted to secure Sean Dempster with Pick 3 in the pre-season draft. A composed and reliable defender and has been a consistent and permanent fixture in the Saints backline, earning All-Australian honours in 2012 and finishing seventh in the 2013 best and fairest.

Despite missing three of the first four games due to injury, Dempster finished second behind Nick Riewoldt at the club for total marks, and was often forced to play on bigger opponents due to St Kilda’s injury crisis.

Rookie Draft Pick 2 - Jaryd Cachia

CACHIA%20Jaryd.png

Considered unlucky by some to be delisted by Carlton in 2011, Cachia made the move to the SANFL and Norwood and it looks to be a great decision. The 21 year old is a genuine inside midfielder, who excels in the clearances and winning the contested ball unlike many mature aged midfielders, he does have the athletic ability to match his ball winning.

Rookie Draft Pick 14 - Alex Spina
SPINA-Alex.jpg

Spina is a medium forward with clean hands and excellent game sense. Reads the play well and shows good composure when the ball is in his hands. Has excellent vision and is smart around goals. Can go through the midfield when required.
