How is this still a thing?

Sorry GWS and Freo…it’s just you Geelong will have a distinct home ground advantage against…

Everyone else, you’re good to go…

We play well there and have beaten them before in a final, but the whole thing is a massive steaming turd

I can see the mistake you're making, thinking that the AFL is a fair competition.

Grow to a size where the AFL estimates 55k will show up.

“Any week one or two final that has a projected crowd of over 55,000 must be played at the MCG
Aaaand St Kilda vs GWS drew 68k last year ffs.

So, no, Geelong will never be playing a final at GMHBA again, except perhaps in the circumstances of 4 week 1 finals all being in Victoria.

If a <55k projected attendance is the AFL's threshold then Geelong will never host another final at GMHBA.

Not even worth talking about.

On the bright side at least we get more than one week's notice this time.

Not just that. There are some opponents where we actively get a home final disadvantage. Totally fair

Either play it there or at the MCG regardless, the expected crowd and team shouldn't factor. Fairness should trump money etc, but we know that won't happen.
Fairness NEVER trumps money with the AFL, revenue and crowds are KPIs for every exec at HQ so non Vic sides continue to be dealt a bad hand

We have the 2nd highest home (8th overall) and away (13th overall) crowd attendance for teams outside VIC. We are plenty big enough. Either Geelong can host home finals (they should be able to) or they can’t.

The AFL will always find a reason to move it to the G. Geelong should absolutely have home finals - and North, Bulldogs, Saints should get to play theirs at Docklands if they're the higher ranking team.

We did and we beat you on the reg down there these days.

However, this way of doing this is complete horse s**t.

Geelong deserve home finals. Love it.
Go nuts.

But to pick out two or three clubs to be sacrificed down there is typical AFL bullshit.

I would rather have St Kilda finals at the MCG.

What needs to happen is that every team must play at least 4 games at the MCG.

Geelong at least play multiple regular season home games at the MCG each year so it is a secondary home venue (although I believe they'd prefer to play 11 at GHMBA).

Worse is when the AFL force teams like the Bulldogs and North there when it's a home venue at no other time than September.

It's a terrible deal for the Bulldogs, St Kilda and North, no arguments there.

I totally agree with this. It should be either all clubs must play there or none.
