If you think anything is going to happen you are mistaken. Governments make money out of losing punters too, the bookies will get away with it.

You miss the point entirely.

Govt's still make money regardless of punters winning or losing. All that is being asked here is for these 'bookmakers' to actually act as such. Bookmaking involves a level of risk which these companies avoid by simply picking & choosing who they will accept bets from.

Earlier, Entain's Steven Lang told the hearing that of 698,000 active customers in 2022, 176,000 had made money, and the company was required to offer bets to everyone for horse races. He conceded, however, that bets may be limited for other events.

This is a bald faced lie. How do I know? Personal experience tells me so. & I am far from being a genius/in the know/big punter. These parasites implemented a very effective & ruthless business model that targets & exploits problem gamblers whilst thinning out those that win even marginally more than their business model tells them they are entitled to.

There will be some changes to how these companies are regulated. Whether those changes will be sufficient or actually what are needed, we shall see.

The grilling was good yesterday but the position that really makes the corps squirm is that you can only bet with them if you lose, which flies in the face of all responsible gambling models. They almost got to that yesterday but not quite, and she didnt challenge the bloke from Lads when he said that 176K of 690K punters were winners last yr, which is an out and out blatant lie

At least the Casino or TAB outlet won't restrict you if you win big or lose big

Watching this weasle squirm his way out of answering the very simple question 'Do you limit or ban winning punters?' did give me a laugh. Hopefully this is the start of reigning these parasites in.

The government have zero interest in making life easier or better for punters.

The only outcome will be more regulation, more taxation and restrictions / banning of promotions.

POCT is charged on bookmakers winnings, so the government certainly make more money off losers than winners.

Personally think some people are getting some false hope that this leads to an mbl on sport or something similar. The outcome will be around regulating advertising, promos and bonus bets. Possibly they will not be allowed to promo ban people as the outcome, I think more likely is promo offers could be outright banned, and there will definitely be some further restrictions around bookies advertising.

Yep this is where it will likely land.

1) Restrictions on bait advertising
2) Consistent treatment of all punters in relation to offerings or
3) Promos banned completely

Both 2 and 3 are bad because if 2 is implemented corps will likely close up shop on promos anyway so they don't have to offer them to winners, or only have them on super high margin events like multis

In no way is 2 bad. Bookmakers will still offer promos to entice you to bet with them over other bookmakers. It's not like they are going to suddenly start leaking money from the 1% who have any idea.

Consistent treatment for every punter should be the cornerstone of this whole thing

Most offerings would disappear as long as they can still offer bonus bets. There are groups out there with databases of details to use accounts for promos. Most bookies simply can’t afford to bet that many promotional accounts. As long as they can offer individuals bonus bets, that’s the path it would go down.

Was anybody here aware of Flemington Sportsbet shutting down?

I know its three months after closure but wasn't until I tried to open my account that I'd noticed it had closed down.

It will be interesting because the corps will only want to offer BBs to their most profitable customers, who are also the biggest losers and in many cases the most vulnerable. The enquiry is looking to protect those customers so there could be restrictions placed on "exclusive" BBs or deposit offers

I’ve had a weekly deposit/bonus bet match offer from 3 smaller bookies last 3 weeks.

They offer s**t odds, s**t range of markets, and s**t app/website layout. Impossible to find a soccer league as they are not sorted by alphabetical, country, and some are in straight forward names and some are sponsored names.

Anyway I’ve been just depositing, collecting my bonus, winning via arbing overall (using Pointsbet as the other side) and then some very low risk bets on my deposit , withdrawing.

Now promo banned from 2. Which is completely understandable. But I just ask - what on earth did they ******* think I’d do? Just burn through it or just make an easy $40-60 and go back to easy to use sites with a wealth of markets?

Doesn’t really bother me as I would never choose to use them, just astounds me that their algorithms pump these offers out and then tantrum when you take them up.

They thought you’d burn through it mate. Lots and lots of punters will see those offers, blow them and blow more dollars after that.

young Jackson has a piece of baggybet doesn't he, rich to pot one of the better joints at abiding by MBL when Dicko and crew do everything they can to dodge it
