Cricket things that annoy you

Absolutely - but geez, its a test match, why the urgency of quick singles with an ounce of risk.
You'll get accused of getting bogged down and not rotating the strike if you don't take on some element of risk with your running.

I whinged in the match day thread earlier today, and it just happened again.

A leg glance is the easiest shot in cricket - why do international cricketers keep getting out caught down legside? It's as frustrating as anything I see on a cricket field.

Australia’s first ever men’s bilateral series against Ireland is in doubt.

Under the ICC’s future tours program, the Aussies are scheduled to tour the Emerald Isle for three one-day internationals and a one-off Twenty20 international across August and September, which would precede five ODIs and three T20s away to England.

However sources have indicated that the Ireland leg may not proceed as planned and could be postponed.
Ireland is also due to host South Africa, Zimbabwe and Pakistan at various stages through its 2024 home season, and it’s understood hosting such a load of matches may not be viable for Cricket Ireland during a year in which the Irish men are also featuring in June’s Twenty20 World Cup across the US and Caribbean.

A Cricket Ireland spokesman declined to comment other than to say that Ireland’s home fixture list was due to be released in early March.
Cricket Australia also chose not to comment on the matter ahead of the schedule release.

Australia has played a handful of one-off one-dayers against Ireland as addendums to other tours as well as clashes during ICC tournaments, but the teams have never faced off in more than one game at a time.

Australia’s scheduled series of three T20s against Afghanistan, scheduled for August under the FTP, is separately in doubt as CA decides whether to resume bilateral relations with Afghanistan against the backdrop of Taliban rule.

Australia has since 2021 canned its bilateral cricket against Afghanistan on humanitarian grounds, although the teams have continued to meet at ICC events.

Should that series go ahead, it is likely to be held in the United Arab Emirates.

Ireland and Afghanistan were in 2017 awarded Test status after being upgraded to full members of the ICC, however neither has played Australia in a Test.

Afghanistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe are the three Test nations who aren’t involved in the World Test Championship.

Zimbabwe cricket chair Tavengwa Mukuhlani earlier this year renewed calls for promotion and relegation to be incorporated into the WTC.

Australia’s women played in Ireland last year at the tail end of the Ashes tour.

Playing an aggressive shot in the last over before tea.
Yeah, especially if you're the bowler! Last game took a wicket second-last ball before drinks - opposition suggested taking drinks break early, but I wanted the incoming batsmen to face one more while I was "on". **** hit me for 6!

You know what's really annoying me right now? The flippant attitude to batting from two players I used to rate very highly. Head has turned into a bazballer, nothing more, nothing less. And I always admired Carey as a batsman, but the shots he plays to get out on lately are doing my head in.

Here we are, 2nd day of a Test match (not Day 5 ... Day 2). On comes off-spinner Phillips. Okay, he took 5 wickets in the previous Test so at least he should be treated with some respect. Apart from Lyon (2 overs), this is the first ball on this pitch from a spinner.

Does Carey use a few balls to gage the turn, etc? No. He thinks Australia are running out of time with only 3 and a half days remaining and he needs to get on with it.

FIRST ball from Phillips ... FIRST ball. It pitches outside Carey's off stump and is spinning AWAY. The one shot you should not be considering is the sweep. So, what does Carey do? He decides to play a half-assed sweep shot, against the spin mind you and hits it straight up in the air.

Carey's glovework is first class, but I'm not going to argue with anyone who thinks he could be replaced. He's doing nothing to help himself.

Head reeks of a player who’s believed a lot of press about himself from the ultra-mainstream media (ie. fox sports etc) who latch onto whatever they can. He has played some really good eye catching knocks thrashing like a twenty20 specialist but you would really look at those knocks in isolation and almost say ‘well he didn’t have much choose.’ Adelaide against the West Indies, Brisbane against SA and a few others. That’s not to diminish them - the WTC final was another - they were good knocks.

But he doesn’t HAVE to play that way. He averaged over 40 as a test batsman, batting sensibly. He has proven he can bat properly.

The England guys playing Bazzball: they haven’t. Ok Root has, but the others haven’t. For Crawley: that’s the ONLY way he’s probably going to have a meaningful test career. Same with Duckett. Probably the same with Bairstow. His best period of test cricket has been playing ultra aggressively. So far for Brook that’s the only way he’s played.

Head has been successful not doing it.

I am still really confused as to why he thinks he has to bat that way all the time now
