This is an official event, no bonus points are on offer in the BigFooty Olympics.

How good is it that the games have kicked off!! Good luck to all the competing nations and officials. I wish everyone the very best and let this be a games showing the olympic spirit.

Just wondering aswell, if for example there was a draw for 1st with two countries, would we use the olympics format for ties in that 2 gold medals will be awarded however they skip the silver medal and move straight to bronze?

Some very good entries. I think this is the hardest round because flags can't be too intricate but you can't just slap three colours together on a design board either. Well done everyone!

The Olympic Games have finally begun and the world has been introduced to the flags of the participating nations. But how do they rate? We have sat down and had a look at each of them.

Here are our ratings:

The Most Serene Republic of Phoronu (PHO) - A picture of perfection and national pride. We may be a bit biased but this is clearly our favourite flag. 11/10

The Rogue Nation of Povlov (POV) - Bright and feeling of an African nation that has been under a dictatorship for decades. Simple and effective. 6/10

​

The Islands Republic of Saint Dremaine (STD) - Circles, circles everywhere. On reflection (pun maybe?) this flag may be the target (pun certainty) of some criticism. 4/10

​

The Commonwealth of New Edmund (EDM) - England meets Eureka? Too many variants of the same colour. Nice flag but not feeling it. 5/10

​

United Socialist States of Spensar (SPE) - Are the stars meant to be misaligned around the circle? Simple but busy. 2/10

​

The Socialist Republic of Vryheed (VRY) - We hope that Vryheed is not an ochre wasteland with horses, 'cause that is what we see. 4/10

The Hateful Hating Hated Haters of Hatesmanville (HIV) - Hate is a very strong word, but the Hateful Hating Haters of Hatesmanville have made us do that to their flag. 0/10

Azeriak Republic (AZK) - Simple but bent. Looks like we are missing something, maybe they need to zoom out a little. 2/10

The Czerenian Republic (CZE) - Bright, very bright. Nice flower? Effective in cases where you need to be seen from a distance. 3/10

Corsorian State (COR) - We like this flag. Unique design and simple colours. 9/10

The Sovereign Republic of Ottama (OTT) - Another one we like. Centralised design that is effective with colours that are great. Were the founders of the nation and designer of the flag fans of the Toronto Thunderbirds of the Canadian-American Premiership like we were? Maybe that is why we like it so much. Though with that being said this flag could just as easily be a symbol seen in a George R.R. Martin book based T.V. Show. 9/10

People's Free Republic of Silveron (SIV) - The last of the flags we really like. Though it is complex it is a strong design it somehow works. Totally mystical. 9/10

The Combined Territories of Southern and Western Relbmuf (CTSWR) - Geometric. 3/10

Republic of Kucheoria (KCH) - 4 birds meeting at crossroads from above? We do like the design, but it isn't a complete winner. 7/10

Island Republic of Medito (MED) - Leaves us feeling a little cold. A nice design, just a little too corporate logo for us. 6/10

And with that the games are underway. Good luck to all the Phoronuan athletes, bring us home plenty of gold, or you know what will happen.

Ability to be seen from a distance is actually crucial given how often this flag will be getting hoisted highest above the crowd during medal ceremonies.

Harsh. To be fair I did make it more than a year ago and I've improved my designing alot since.
The 16 stars represent the 16 founding city-states of the Socialist Republic.

Since the last time I checked, all the vote tallies look the same to me. Unless there are one or two that I've forgotten about.

What is the go here? I can see that all the top teams have had a few votes knocked off. Was that because the board refreshed to an earlier time and 12 hours ceased to exist?

No idea. But if you see votes off, and it didn't affect the overall tallies, I say play ball. But if someone has lost out on a medal from it, then something has to give.

I'll screenshot them and compare the two versions and their voters to get the proper tally.

Yeah a few votes are missing. I know that my one was in double digits (10 or 11) and was sitting equal second on votes. The leaders (3 way tie from memory) were on 12 or 13.

It WAS a 3 way tie earlier than last night. But I know what the original votes were from 11pm last night and will keep the results of those differences secretive until after the event.

Cultural. Temeganast's annual "bury the flag" tradition took place a week before the first event, and they ended up forgetting where they buried it.

They only packed one flag.

The Fresh Prince of Vryheed is calling for a recount due to corruption, he cant believe his nation has lost 28 votes either.
jk The Fresh Prince trusts that the Olympic committee will do the right thing and top Vryheed's votes up to a silver medal
