Is this the thread where you don't get banned for after-timing?
If it is,I have got some epic stories.

I think this is a safe space.

Would love to hear epic stories; both amazing wins and tragic fails.

Alright maybe I deserved that being a bit of smart alec Pacemaker. But you have only posted winning bets, and some nice wins there too by the way. All us punters know though that we have both winning and losing bets. The only way for anyone to definitively prove they're a long term winner is start a betting tracker thread. All bets placed in real time, with the bookies name (so odds are verified etc..), amounts wagered and keep a running balance. To me this, over the long term, is the proof and the only proof anyone could provide.

give me one reason why anyone who wins doing all the above would want to do this?

You can add up all my losing bets in the AFL round threads if you think you have the time to do so.

Kind regards

The winning bets you have provided are from multis which generally aren't a long term winning strategy as bookies actually provide incentives to bet on them. Additionally you need a proven track record over a long period to time to determine profitability to ensure you aren't being heavily influenced by - or + variation which can have a massive influence on results in the short term. 8 rounds of the season isn't long term in case you were wondering.

There's only a couple of regulars on the punting board who I think are actually making money consistently.

The thing is, I think both of them are betting with unit sizes of $10, possibly even less.

No offense to those dudes but if you were to divide their season winnings by hours spent looking over the data and placing bets, they could make more money dueling geriatrics at the chess tables in the local park.

Most of us on this board are basically mug punters, some of us are well aware of it but YOLO etc.

If you haven't been banned by at least one bookmaker, you can't seriously think you are 'winning' overall.

Sorry to be a debbie downer but if you are punting under the assumption you are making serious money (or will eventually make serious money) from this, then you're a trainwreck waiting to happen imho.

Punting is meant to be a form of entertainment.

Sometimes you win, it feels great. Sometimes you lose, it feels s**t. But it makes you feel something.

It gives you a reason to watch well-paid mollycoddled private schoolboys kick around a sherrin.

If you're not enjoying the ups and the downs, this is the wrong hobby for you.

---

Fwiw, I keep detailed spreadsheets of my punting and can tell you I finished 2021 and 2022 up.

I finished 2020 and 2023 down, and so far I am down in 2024 as well.

Across the five years (that is, if you put them together), overall I am down.

I feel like I am at a disadvantage because I am banned from 365 and they usually seem to have the juiciest goalscorer odds.

I missed out on the Ziebell train in 2022 and the Rayner train in 2023, I don't know if I'll ever forgive myself for it.

I was locked and loaded for the Sheezel train this year, it never arrived.

Hopefully the Lukosius train arrives on Saturday, not because I have tickets, but I want to live vicariously through DLM, I want to believe that if I woke up just a little earlier that day, I could have loaded up on Lukosius @67 and not only erased my losses for 2024, but gotten so far into the black that I could freeroll the rest of the season.

I hope this post has been informative. Thank you for your time.

Some people can, but I agree with you that if you spent the time it takes to actually be meaningfully profitable, you could have spent that time in another side pursuit that is likely just as profitable, if not more.

I also think with AI, all betting markets are going to be priced as accurately as possible very soon, and it will be impossible to ever have an edge betting on sports.

People will just be reduced to essentially playing craps at a casino, masquerading as an AFL head to head bet.

Not that that will be a hit to the bookies pockets.

Most people who bet (the true mugs - not the people here), just wanna get their juices flowing and have money riding on a game to heighten the viewing experience.

That's me, I'm one of the mugs, I bet to make the game more exciting.

If I were to try to do this to make money, I'd have to limit my bets to a narrow range of games and markets.

And even then I wouldn't be sure of winning, but I would maximise my chances.

I think you could just hang out and wait for the occasional overpriced debutant (and positional change) for goals / tackles / possessions based on stats in the magoos, rookieme profiles, training reports.

If you limited your bets like that, and could wear the variance across time, I think you could make money betting on AFL.

But it would be boring. Like a job.

I bet for fun. To make the games interesting. I'm a mug punter and I know it.

That's why (most of) the corporates haven't banned me yet. Even the ones I'm currently ahead with.

They know (or have good reason to believe) it's only a matter of time before they get that money back.

I don't bet on sport, but it is possible to make an annual profit on the ponies using a proportional staking approach or adopting the Kelly Criterion.

That would take him about 3 hours.

You won’t be making any money long term backing 5+ leg multis/SGM. This is how the bookies want you to bet. I bet singles only
I also guessing these are with big stakes $400+ bets for $1.50 - $2.00 odds?

Can't see any other way you are making $1000+ profits most weeks.

This how you do it?
