Jake Lloyd

Player Profile

Jake Lloyd is a ball magnet, an endurance machine, a clean user of the footy and a calming influence on the Sydney Swans’ half-back line. The former rookie-listed Swan averaged 27.22 disposals per match between 2016 and 2019 and won the club’s 2018 Bob Skilton Medal. Lloyd became the quickest Swan in history to reach 100 senior games when he ran out against Hawthorn at the MCG in Round 8, 2018. He was then recognised as one of the best players in the league when he was selected for Victoria in the State of Origin match for bushfire relief in February 2019. Draft history: 2013 Rookie Draft selection (Sydney) No. 15; 2014 AFL Draft rookie elevation (Sydney).

Likes a turnover but I think he is having a good patch of form.

I have nothing to support this and I am sure data proves this wrong , but to my eye he has played with a harder more contested edge as others have been out. Think he has been outstanding , and I have never been a huge fan of his. Well liked him but thought him being a best and fairest high rated player was overs.

Anyone back to the compliment , just think he has played with some aggression and much needed smarts.

Jake Lloyd has been Sydney's Mr Consistent for almost a decade and he's lived up to that billing again in 2023 amid a chaotic season of constant personnel change.

Yeah has been pretty good. Some good defensive efforts as well. Didn't stop someone suggesting a trade recently though.

It's very different to Blakey's style but watching Jake Lloyd streaming through the corridor is an absolute joy.

not much different then 😂
I wondered when you asked because I felt he's been attacking things more. Last night he did a great charge onto a dropping ball near me that didn't result in a stat but ensured that the ball didn't get past him. Brave stuff, in past years he might have held back to be more certain. Nice play.

Different role I reckon. We've got a surplus of outside/flanker types and Lloyd's the guy who does a lot of the feeding out to them.

I love having Lloyd and Cunningham in the backline. They are not our flashiest but so reliable. Generally make the right decision in a split second or realise when they can take a bit more time.
Really happy to see both back to their best form. Harry obliterated Cameron and Jake is defensively filling a lot of spaces. All good.

How good is it to see Harry back in form? I really thought it had passed him by but his last couple of weeks have proved me wrong.

I wonder if at any stage, the Swans said “hey Jake, you’re a senior player these days - do you want a number other than 44?”.
The players choose their numbers each year, which means Lloyd has had 11 chances to change from 44 and has refused all of them.

There is only one explanation... he has the record for most club champions won by a number 44 locked up for a long, long time. Well played, Jake.
