I guess by us picking up Sansbury means we aint gonna get no Arron Davis.

here's something...

Edward Sansbury
180 cm / 85 kg

Last year he played in the Reserves premiership with Cam Faulkner and has played in defence prior to this year. Was used in kick in which suggests he has a good kick. Definetly knows where the goals are and has pace to burn (recorded 3 second 20 meter sprint time). He is still only 19 and has started playing football at 14. Prior to that he was a basketball junky.

Needs to work on his endurance a bit and at times can lack a bit of discipline. He really has come on in leaps and bounds this year. His improvement was sensational. Also has a bit of a puppy fat so a couple of good pre-seasons are needed to get rid of that. With a bit more muscle and improved endurance, he could be used in the midfield.

Definetly worth a go a bit later in the draft (3rd round +). Could also slip through and be picked up as a rookie by one of the Adelaide Clubs. I expect him to be drafted.

here's something else on his game in the safl g-final....

Sansbury outplayed Cooney when he was on him, simple as that, and no it wasnt just his pace that did Cooney. He took a chest mark on him in a one on one, played in front. I rate Cooney very highly indeed but he isnt the next God for christ sakes. Has a solid body and will go a long way at AFL but really he needs to improve his general passion for the game a bit, then he'll be right.

Sansbury will play AFL, hopefully for the crows but having him at centrals is enough ti make me happy.

He led the endurance testing at the SA draft camps, so he's obviously worked on this. I actually think he's a better option than Davey - he still has tremendous pace, but he can win the hard ball. Saw him quite a bit with Centrals this year, his finals series with CD was really good, especially the GF when I thought he shoiuld have won the Jack Oatey. I think he'll end up being a good pick.

Inside Footy states DOB AS 26/11/83 which would make him 19 until Wednesday

Leading up the the SANFL GF there was an article on him in the Advertiser, said he was 19 at that point which would match the DOB on Inside Footy.

Simon Black credits his ability to win the ball in the packs from the skills he learned when he played basketball. So that's a good sign.

Of course, one of the reasons why we draftet Robert Pyman all those years ago was a blanketing job he did on Nathan Buckley in a SANFL Grand Final. So this is a bad sign.

I get the feeling Sansbury was drafted with a view to play him as a small defender. It doesn't make much sense to draft a specialist FP at the moment.

Apparently he beat Cooney in the SANFL GF, so we can trott that line out a few times before the season!!!

Eddie may be the wake up call Leigh Harding needs after an indifferent end to the year!

Indeed.

I am hoping for the Byron type move to defence.

Might take Makepeace's spot, which I am sure will disapoint you. ;) .

I am sure to get a bit "Tashi" about Edward!!!

Heard Laidley say after the match that he was really happy with Eddie for keeping Davey quiet during the match.........I dont get it..........If keeping Davey quiet is such a big deal why didnt we just draft him instead of Eddie?

Did anyone else think this?

Davey is going to kick some goals for Melb. Eddie can play back and maybe stop this type of player.

Flashy small forward vrs steady defender, who can play small or medium.

The players we have like him are

Wells
S.Harvey
J.Clayton
and Harding.

All of these guys are going to be able to play on the ball at some stage or a wing. I can't see Davey playing on the ball, just not big enuff.

When Davey has kicked 30 odd goals in the AFL this year then we can say like 15 other clubs that we should have drafted him. When we see him come up against AFL defenders, not VFL, then we can say we missed him.
