Australia isn't a monkey on NZ's back, it's King Kong.

They won't get many chances to win a home test vs Aus, and that was an opportunity botched.

That said, phenomenal from Kez and support act from Cummo who has proven himself to be clutch with the bat. Edgbaston, Afghanistan in the WC (didn't hit the runs, but played his role beautifully) and now here. Can't criticise him for finishing it off in a close finish, if we were five down, maybe, but now when Sears was on a hat-trick not long before that. I doubt Carey cares too much about missing out on the tonne either.

He was a picture of concentration, hardly a false shot really. Julian was critical of him going for the cut too often - maybe - but he was really watching the ball closely all innings and footwork was good.

If Australia were any good they'd have lost hardly any wickets in the process. They need to wake up and fix the top order, as the lower order won't be able to rescue them EVERY single time.

Agree, our batting is not world class atm. Smith is a walking wicket, Marnus has finally fallen back to where he belongs - the status of a modest batsman, while Head, Green and Marsh are hardly reliable. Restoring Smith to #4 is not necessarily the panacea either as his form has been average for a while and we need to stabilise spots in the middle order for the future.

They just seem to lack ticker. The most disappointed man will be Williamson who had the chance to rebuild his reputation by making runs against Australia but failed again.

They have players with ticker: they set up a fairly big run chase after being 8-108 in their first innings. You can’t do that without ticker.

But they can’t hold their nerve. They don’t and never have truly had the ability to genuinely put their foot on the throat outside of when they had Hadlee running the show with the ball.
