Context- there will only be 50 odd taken in the draft, with the rest by rookie upgrades.

If 5-7 of those are academy and f/s or NGA that means only low 40s in a weak year.

I now picks “shuffle back” but if the points used to match are almost after where clubs are going to stop picking…. It makes late picks worthless.

So long winded way of saying the points for picks exceed past where picks will actually be used on draftees.
didn't realise the draft was so shallow this year. hoping we get 2 picks in before cleary using our later picks to match

Started off a 'super draft' but has fizzled into a weak one the more the year went on.

The Suns currently have 9 selections in the draft although the last three of those are of little use from a points perspective. We assume they will take the dogs picks 10 & 17 for their current pick 4 taking it to 10 picks. With some here saying you are only allowed the same number of picks as you have available spots on your main list, why is it that they have only delisted 3 players.

Will be interesting to see if we do loo at having Parker spend more time forward next year. I still think he was playing hurt this year. He regularly looked like he was in discomfort. Even if that was the case, it's all the more reason to ease his workload a bit. The longer his body is up to playing AFL, even as a forward, the better for us to state the obvious.
Great thing is that we know Parker and adams are both very effective playing forward, I think you could only play 1 of them on the ball at a time for longer periods as they are abit slower.

I think the mix in the center would be 1 of adams/Parker as the old bull providing leadership and grunt, 1 of rowbottom/sheldrick as more of a contested extractor that can also be defensive if needed, and 1 of chad/Errol as the outside receiver providing the run and carry. Add in Mills once he’s back and papley for short bursts and that’s a lot of depth that complements each other well

We will trade like a future 4th to suns for some of their picks in 50s/60s that they can’t use list spot wise for points

Looking at this through the lens of opposition supporters, are the swans panicking with these picks;

1. Grundy - a desperate need, older and is he the type of ruckman who will win us a premiership? Big contract for an aging ruckman.
2. James Jordon - good age profile and can play midfield or wing. Comes from winning culture and swans fan. I hope we haven't overpaid for him.
3. Hamling - reports he was offered 1 year rookie contract from Freo and possibly considering retirement, has chronic ankle issues, older too and hasn't played much seniors past few years. Hopefully not Brand MKII
4. Adams - 31 next year, $1.1m salary next year and body is failing him. Slow, not a great kick, but has some mongrel about him which we need and leadership. Would Dow have been the safer option, cheaper with more upside? Will cost us a decent pick to get Adams also for 2-3 years of service only.

It's possible 3 and 4 don't play much footy for the Swans with constant injuries. 1 and 2 should be good gets but you never know. It's all about risk vs reward. Hopefully our medicals we conduct are thorough.

Personaly I like we are being aggressive, It's better to try than do nothing like 2022 recruiting. Time will tell.
Hamling has shown he’s a proven afl level defender when healthy, has just missed a lot of footy due to his ankle
Injury, whereas I’d say Brand never really established himself at the level.

Freo fans saying Hamling was outstanding this year for peel/Freo and played 23 games. I think he’s a great pickup especially when you compare how much other kpd’s are costing

Basically for the purposes of the draft, delisted and uncontracted are the same thing.

It is all about open list spots, which then correlates to the number of selections you take to the draft.

Why are we only trading in 30+ year olds? Grundy, Hamling, Adams. The only one who's younger (Jordon) seems to be a Ryan Clarke replacement with a limited upside.

And I'll admit I've barely heard of him before, but Hamling seems a very strange get. A 31 year old defender with chronic injury issues who has only played a handful of games in the last 5 years. Really weird.

Why not? We're loading up for a Premiership tilt, it makes more sense to bring in experienced players rather than more youth.

Grundy and Adams especially are opportunistic and pretty obvious gets for a team in a flag window.

Also list composition. We are too young

Sure, but I'd be more comfortable if they were like 27 or something. At least we could count on them for a few years. 30 tends to be the beginning of the end for most AFL footballers. Very few improve at that age.

I read last week that Geelong won last years flag with the oldest list, Collingwood won this year's with the third oldest.
Perhaps the club has realised that perhaps a few old heads will help guide and steady the younger players when the going gets tough.

Hamling has fewer miles on the clock, courtesy of an ankle issue which is apparently all good now.
