Prefer that with Tomlinson in, Salem to be pushed up MID/FWD.

Also hoping Tomlinson takes second best forward, to free up Lever to play his best rebounding footy.

I'm probably one of the only dees supporters who sees valuable use in Omac. His best position is clearly as a 3rd tall and with a solid preseason he should thrive in that role this year.

I've gone with:

Jetta - May - Hore
Salem - Lever - Smith
I got confused by the whole thing so I’m going to borrow your defenders if that’s okay. Also it’s vaguely unnerving seeing you on this side of this thread

Explain how he's a good 3rd tall.
I’m not usually one to make excuses but the bloke just did not have a clear run at it last year. Did barely any preseason and often (along with frost) had to take on the opposition’s best forward. So from that perspective it’s no wonder why he, much like the team, was absolutely shithouse last season.

By all reports Oscar has completed pretty much every session this preseason and if may and lever can stay on the park this year then there is use for omac as a 3rd tall. If he’s s**t again then he’ll probably be delisted and I’ll look like a massive campaigner but she’ll be right.

If Omac wants to be playing senior footy, he has to be good enough to take the 1st or 2nd tall. He can’t play as the third tall, that is lever’s role.

Also I don’t see Thomlinson playing as a defender. He is an elite runner, I don’t see one on one defending as a strength of his.

I cheated and put Salem in my 6, after having also put him in my midfield 6. Not much I could do about it though... I didn’t know too many of the other choices and I sure as s**t wasn’t putting Oscar out there.

In an ideal world we would have 2 Salem’s, so he can kick the ball out of the backline to his clone on the wing

Actually this happened in a game sandy Roberts was commentating and Jetta (actually JKH) managed to kick it to Jetta

HB: Salem, May, Lever

I think I voted Salem for mids, but I am basing this off of the popular vote listed in this post. If I had to switch out Salem it would be Hibberd.

The thing I noticed about this was how crap our defence is.
Genuinely can't pick the 6th player.

Jetta May Hore
Hibberd Lever ....
Genuinely missing someone who can run and carry the footy there.

Gonna say Tomlinson because it releases Hore and Hibberd to play more attacking.

Hate Salem in defence.

I had the same as you, but put Salem in.

Harmes was mentioned as a potential HBF'er late last year (at the B&F i think) which might be the run and carry you're looking for. Personally I'd prefer him to be in the middle, pushing forward, but if it happens with Harmes and it works I actually think it's a pretty good back 6.

Smith and Omac as depth, Salem and perhaps Jones/Tomlinson able to roll back at a pinch.
Hopefully some guys developing (Petty, Rivers, small defender I can't remember)

Trent Rivers is a genuine shout for Round 1

Harmes has been training with the backs. He will start there. I would have voted for him if he was in the list.

My defensive six:
Jetta | May | Smith
Hibberd | Lever | Salem

This is pretty shocking. I’m a novice but it feels to me like this wastes some of the talents he brings to the game.
I don't think so. He's accountable, good overhead, a good runner, and I think he will add some flair to the back line as a distributor. Plus, there's plenty of stoppages in the back half of the ground in which he will have plenty of impact.

We don't need flair from the backline. We need to kick goals and defend better.
We have May, Salem, Jetta, Hore, Hibberd and Lever. Plenty of blokes who can kick nicely, none are bad kicks.

What we do have is a one position, one way midfield and we are removing the only rounded midfielder we have to fill probably the least important of our issues.

We had major issues defending turnovers due to a lack of pressure up field. We had major issues defending clearances due to a poor defensive midfield, we had major issues converting inside 50s. I never once thought we had an issue moving the ball out of the back 50.

We were 9th for inside 50s but 16th for points scored.
We were 16th for uncontested touches league wide.

So we've moved our most dangerous mid/forward and most balanced inside/outside mid to the backline.

Well ******* done Goody 👌

All good points, let's just see about Harmes it seems a lot of talk about him playing HBF. Where there is smoke there is fire.

For mine last year we were horrible at ground balls inside 50m, and it hurt us big time - we didn't score crumbing goals but worst of all we lost the footy inside 50, had all the side forward pressing up and the opposition defenders would win the ground ball inside our 50m and spit it out the other way and waltz down the other end to score.

Yep I'd agree and I don't think it's gonna be solved just by Pickett. Think we will need to find more than that.
