1. Marcus Bontempelli
2. Patrick Cripps
3. Zach Merrett
4. Josh Kelly
5. James Sicily
6. Charlie Cameron
7. Ben Brown
8. Christian Salem
(Jesse Hogan)
9. Matt Crouch
10. Karl Amon
11. Jack Billings
12. Dom Sheed
13. Darcy Gardiner
14. Tom Barrass
15. Aliir Aliir
16. Darcy Byrne-Jones
17. Zak Jones
18. George Hewett
19. Toby Nankervis
20. Alex Pearce

Interesting draft. Big names up the top, but there's not that much of them. Lots of players who seem to be around 10-18 on their list, not that many around the 3-8 mark, so to speak.

Quite a number of good players that missed out, though.

I like to look at the make ups of a "best 22" of a draft. This draft has a really strong group on every line. What I would have is:

Sicily - Aliir - Barrass
Byrne-Jones - Gardiner - Salem
Amon - Cripps - Kelly
Fantasia - McStay - Billings
Cameron - Brown - Lobb
Nankervis - Bontempelli - Merrett
Sheed - Jones - Hewett - Crouch

Lacks small forward depth but a bloody good side nonetheless

Alex Pearce is definitely underrated by the wider AFL public. Has his issues with injury but he’s an elite key defender if he stays on the park for the full season. Gave the inform and hyped up Peter wright a thorough beat down the weekend just past.
I think Aish and acres are not in the top 20 here from a freo point of view, but I’d have Pearce several spots higher

McDonald should probably be higher. Got near identical career stats to Byrne-Jones, despite being a lockdown player for most of his career.

This is why games aren’t played on a stat sheet.

McDonald wouldn’t be far off this list but really any one of these guys would be stiff to be ranked lower than him.

DBJ does have an All Australian gong, Luke McDonald hasn’t been close

Was very impressed with Pearce and I’d have him above Amon in the list a couple of posts above (Aliir would be there as well).

In terms of beating Wright, I think you’ll find that Wright was also well below performance which made Pearce’s job easy. The fact that Wright went for every mark with a pathetic one-handed attempt suggests that he was perhaps his own worst enemy at times.

Mate Barrass is a star beats the best forward n then takes Intercepts!
Every team would have them in there team. I’d have him round 7th
Did you read the post I was responding to? I was saying these 2 have to be in the discussion with the best defenders in this draft.

I don't think he is underrated by most talent wise, just simply put he hasn't played enough. 67 games in 8 years is not a lot. If he can stay on the park over the next few i expect he jumps up the draft board.

Interesting to see Billings so high on the lists in this thread. Definitely been a decent contributor but have always thought he was a bit flakey and wasteful in front of goal. What would justify having him over Barrass, Aliir etc.?

1. Bont
2. Cripps
3. J. Kelly
4. Z. Merrett
5. Sicily
6. Ben Brown
7. Charlie Cameron
8. Dom Sheed
9. Tom Barass
10. Salem

Something like that IMO.

I get Cripps and Merrett being 50/50 but both are definitely ahead of Kelly now

Crazy deep draft. I’d probably bring in Impey, Lobb, Hunt and Jones for Fantasia, Pearce, Crouch and Holman. Pearce and Crouch are clearly best 22 on talent but don’t fit team balance. Fantasia is a gun but his body has failed him too much.

BUMP!

Zac Merrett, James Sicily and Alex Pearce have added their names to their clubs' lists of VFL/AFL captains.

Luke McDonald likewise.

In addition to Bontempelli, Nankervis and Cripps, 7/18 clubs have 2013's names as men's captain.

If Pearce hadn't missed like 80% of games he would be known as a star of the AFL, unfortunately 60 odd games in 10 years makes it hard

Would be very interesting if he is eventually recognised as our first premiership captain

Out of interest how far off competing for a flag do you think you are?
